    dslate69:
This is close to being the perfect app to compliment any HTPC.
If I may, adding the ability to run applications from key presses would take it over the top.

Interesting thought, I will look into a way of using MACROS instead of just keypresses.

What sort of actions do you think the macros should be able to do? Keypresses, Open Applications (including BAT files), Eject, Volume, Sleep, Close Application...what else?

MediaPortal, or VMCE then relaunch "PS3 Remote App" along with the corosponding app. Right now I still need to use "HotKeyz" to manage this via keyboard shortcut from your app.

I had already thought of this...having different keymaps for different applications and it sends the appropriate action depending on what process window is focussed.

If you use MediaPortal, I have actually created a dedicated plugin that runs on the MediaPortal API (rather than a separate application)...take a look through this thread to find the relevant downloads:

Your work is trully admired, I only wish I had your coding skills.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks.

Eject, volume (maybe a way to maximize a full screen app if it gets minimized) are ideas.
Dunno about any power functions as you wouldn't be able to awake the pc from the remote (unless maybe if it were running as a service; dunno about that).
Also being able to load another settings file on the fly would be awesome. That would in essence multiply the buttons you could map by 4. That way one could push red then all the buttons are mapped to "windows functions", then push green and all the buttons are mapped to VMCE, blue loads mappings for xbmc, yellow  for mediaportal or whatever.
You could also do something like push green for video and it would take you to the video window in your perfered htpc app and load a seperate ini that is specific for video and pushing blue could take you to music and load a music specific button layout.
    Again, thanks for sharing.

Ben, I must say, you are truly amazing.  I was looking for something like this around 6 months ago and was unable to come up with anything.  I had originally been looking for a bt remote because I didn't want to use a reciever, all there is is Microsoft's $350 remote... I don't think so.  Since I already have a PS3, I tried and was able to pare my remote just to find that it didn't function, boy was I bummed out.  Fastforward to this past sunday afternoon, I decide to give it another glance in hopes of a developement by some brilliant minds.  I read through this entire thread as well as the one on media portal (which I had never even heard of- but intend to use the remote for only VMC anyways).  I just wanted to thank you, SO MUCH!! Have you given the updates suggested by dslate a shot?  If you need any other help with tests or opinions like sIRwa2 provided, I would be more than happy to help.  Question though, how can I test out these preferences he used?  Thanks again and keep up the good work and improving this BEAUTIFUL application (if its even possible!).

Edit: Would you believe I forgot the entire purpose of this post?  In my searches yesterday afternoon, I also came across this very helpful list of keyboard shortcuts in WMC.  I don't know if you already know of these or have the list, but I wanted to post it incase it can be of any help or allow you to add to this app's wonders.  http://www.geektonic.com/2007/09/windows-media-center-cheat-sheet-vista.html  Hope that helps

Edit 2:  And to think I forgot one last thing, I appologize for the length of this post.  I have a BD-RE drive and stumbled upon this in regards to playing Blu-ray movies within WMC, http://blog.mediacentersandbox.com/PermaLink,guid,d3e0afea-17a6-479f-88b1-0369670fe1ff.aspx, would you happen to know how I could go about doing that?  I couldn't figure out which file would need to be edited or how those settings would be adjusted from the instructions in that post and haven't the slightest of any other idea to figure this out.  Thanks again, sir!

Glad you got it working ok.

Haven't had the time to update anything yet, I am desperately trying to find a decent job at the moment...will update when on more stable ground financially.

Another problem is the size of the application as I didn't really want to go out of the scope of Vista Media Center.

Question though, how can I test out these preferences he used?

The configuration on that page there is for the MediaPortal plugin version of this application and has no relavance what-so-ever to the application in this thread or Vista Media Center. There should be a half decent configuration already pre-setup when you install the application. To edit the configuration you can right-click on the tray icon and go to configuration.

Already fully aware of that. It is how I created the default configuration. But thanks - it will probably help others.

Just looks like CMD commands for the top half...and thats a configuration file for a MCML application (VMC plugin) on the bottom half.

Awesome, sounds great. The current pre-setup is actually great, I just need to learn it.

I copied and pasted the bottom code in regards to the blu-ray into an xml file and ran the command prompt to register it and it works.  One last, quick question though, that page mentions unregistering it to return it to the state prior to opening the blu-ray application, and I'm not sure how to do that.  If I run the unregister command in the CMD right after I register it, it doesn't seem to tell it to do both, but rather just unregistering it from ever being there.  I'd assume you shouldn't have to unregister it everytime, as that just wouldn't make any sense.  Would you know of the correct way to possibly go about doing this?  Thanks again

To be quite honest, I haven't the slightest clue....don't use BR or HDDVD myself so I couldn't tell you. But I would assume you don't have to keep unregistering it....

The best idea would be to post in either of the top two forums of this group: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/default.aspx?GroupID=17

THIS BUG HAS NOW BEEN FIXED.

To download the latest BETA here: PS3 Remote Application v1.0 BETA

Question: Is anyone getting any crashes of this application? I sometimes get a crash but I can't for the live of me figure out under what circumstances it happens under.
  •

Thanks ben, I will try out the latest beta.

I have also noticed the occasional crash, though it has only occured when I was playing around with SMS input.  Maybe related?

  •
I have tried out the latest beta, however the SMS input remains non-functional in my setup (Vista Ulimate with latest SP). Is there any special procedure for using the SMS input or should the num pad just work? Can it possibly be related to my bluetooth receiver?

Hmm....very wierd...wasn't working for me...but I fixed the problem and now it is working for me.

Its nothing to do with your bluetooth receiver.

Did you uninstall the previous version before installing the new version?

When you right click the icon in the System Tray is "Toggle SMS" checked?

Open notepad with the remote paired and the application open and press the 2 key on the numpad multiple times in quick succession....it should toggle through "2"-"a"-"b"-"c".

Got it working. I did uninstall but I had another user logged in. Rebooted, uninstalled, installed and worked no problem.  Thanks for the great app!
