I too am having trouble with MusicBridge on Vista (build 5536).
I get these errors on each of my tracks, like this:
.FAIL: E:\Users\Anthony\Music\Robin Guthrie\Imperial\01 imperial.mp3.FAIL: E:\Users\Anthony\Music\Robin Guthrie\Imperial\02 freefall.mp3
This happens when I try any of the Sync to WMP buttons, for all my tracks. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?
To answer a previous post about the error writing to the log, you need to run the "Program Compatibility Wizard" on MusicBridge to let it run as admin, because it attempts to write the log to C:\. (to be Vista compatible, it would be best to write the log to the users AppData folder, or the ProgramData folder).

Sorry for my absence. I recently moved and started a new job and have just been unable to find the time to look at some of the issues people are having. I hope to get a look at some of the issues soon.
It seems like most of the issues are happening with WMP 11 and/or Vista. Unfortunately I only have access to a Win2k machine at the moment so I will not be able to look into the WMP 11 issues. As for Vista I doubt I will be able to look at that until I buy a Vista machine after it is released...
I have access to all that (Vista RC1, etc.) and I am very much willing to help you debug these issues. Any chance of working together on this?
First, let me add my appreciation to you for all the hard work you have done to create this important app, to resolve the issues being created by a bunch of people who don't seem to be able to grow up enough to just get along!
I am a complete neophyte to this part of computing, however, and I am wondering if you can point me to the proverbial "idiot's guide" to using Music Bridge. For example, you mention I need to buy and install a codec. Which one? Where/how do I install it? What modifications do I need to make to the WMP set up to tell it to look at iTunes files and to play the files using (?) the codec. I am hoping that this guide already exists and that this request is not time-consuming for you. I could not find this help in this thread or in the readme file associate with Music Bridge.
I appreciate any help and your time.
Hey all,
Now I am settled in to my new job and home I got a chance to install the latest Vista version. As most of you experienced MusicBridge was flakey to say the least on Vista. It's 2:15 in the morning and I am watching the titles fly by as I sync my libraries on Vista. It is currently a debug build and to be honest I'm not sure why this appears to be working any differently to the .Net 2.0 release build I installed earlier. Anyway it is encouraging and I plan to try and get a Vista compatible version to you this weekend....

So here you go Vista users (others with problems might try it as well). You MUST read the ReadMe to set it up right for Vista.
MusicBridge 1.6.2 Vista compatible

Let me know how it works for you.
What does the virus alert say. I don't have OneCare but I would be interested in which virus it says it is finding? I wonder if it is throwing a warning because it is built in debug mode. Are you you running on Vista?
Did you ever run 1.6.1 (it is still available on downloads.com)
If you try 1.6.1 which is still available on downloads.com does it behave the same way?
Are you sure that WMP is looking at the same files that iTunes is, WMP doesn't have a copy or anything?
I have finally decided to abandon my committment to AAC. After many years of finding ways around problems (including writing MusicBridge) I have decided to switch to MP3. I was hanging on with hope that Vista would have native support for AAC, as this does not seem to be the case (although I hear that MS Zune will support AAC so who knows) and I cannot find anyway to stream AAC from Vista MCE to my Xbox 360 (although I expect this will be fixed by the January release, I just can't wait). At this point the only advantage to me for AAC is the size issue, a 128 AAC file has significant savings over a 192 MP3 which in my opinion is equivalent quality. But my car, my media center, xbox 360 and much bigger iPods kind of outweigh that now. I look forward to getting volume leveling and track times in Media Center.
I am currently facing a huge conversion of the majority of my 13,000 tracks from AAC to MP3. I am yet to figure out what this means for MusicBridge, I may still need it I kind of hope I don't. If I decide not to continue with development I will either pass the code on to an individual who wants to carry on with the development, or just make it an open source project.
I honestly think that AAC is a better technology than MP3 but it just has not been picked up by enough manufacturers/systems and MP3's ubiquity is hard to beat. I am a little sad to make this transition, but I think it is the right thing to do. If anyone has any advice for the mass conversion I would be grateful. Currently I just plan to use iTunes to do the conversion.
