To answer my own question, just copy your main MCE library to the extenders by copying the contents of:
C:\Documents and Settings\Stuart\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
(replacing "Stuart" with the appropriate user account anme, obviously)
to
C:\Documents and Settings\MCX1\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
I tried Music Bridge and it's exactly the software I am looking for, however it doesn't seem to work correctly and I am wandering if it's a configuration issue or bug.
I imported my CD collection into Itunes with .wav files luckily; as after using itunes I find it's playback window quite lacking (eg. can't sort by genere, then by artist, then by album or just to get a quick list of albums (eg. with 4500 songs iTunes is very tedious)) or at least I haven't found a way.
So I want to move to WM Player. All the files are sorted in composer or artist/album/song.wav, by iTunes on import and they are now in the WM Player media library.
When I use music bridge to transfer the records from iTunes to WM Player, it matches the wrong file names to information from the iTunes database. Both players point to exactly the same directory \\music\itunes\itunes music. Any suggestions?
J
So when you say it matched the wrong information are you saying that it tags one song with another song's info?
Can you send me the output log that should be at the root of your C:\ directory.
Just to let you know
THANK YOU for the command line switches. I love autoupdate every 12 hours
I'm very grateful for the MusicBridge app and with a bit of careful use it really does solve the iTunes to WMP problem for iPod/MCE users.
I did have one issue with it to do with it seeming to modify every mp3 file, every time it is run. I guess this won't be noticed by everyone (except it takes a long time when you have 30Gig of music). However, I back up my music to another hard drive (as well as my iPod) and this was causing me to run a 30gig backup over my network every night unless I manually set the modified date tag.
The following batch file should help you if you want to run MusicBridge unattended with a suitable date. It uses a little dos command I found on the web, details below.
------------------------------------------------------
REM run musicbridge with my settingsREMREM Using realdate from webREM http://www.huweb.hu/maques/realdate.htmREM
call lastrun.bat
musicbridge.exe -AlliTunesToWMP -SourceModifiedDate %mbdate%musicBridge.exe -synciTunesPLToWMP -SmartPL -SourceModifiedDate %mbdate%
realdate /f="DD/MM/YY" /s="set mbdate=" >lastrun.bat
---------------------------------------------------------
I save this as a batch file in the same folder as MusicBridge and also the program "realdate" from http://www.huweb.hu/maques/realdate.htm .
Works a treat when run everyday.
The first time you run it, "lastrun.bat" won't exist but this will be created and available the next time.
Wow it's pretty exciting to see people really using this as an integral part of their setup. Thanks for the feedback, I was wondering if the big changes I made for the last release had any effect.
Merry Christmas
As soon as I launched the installatin package it tried to get me to overwrite my lovely shiney new .net framework 2.0! Is there anyway to avoid this monstrous evil? If you can't be bothered you can give me the source and i'll put it through my updater. I would dearly love to use this program but I want to use my cool, free microsoft visual studio express editions too.
Expert! Il marche! Je t'adore, c'est manufique! Maintenant je ne doit que trouver comment on peut ecouter les .m4a sur mon 'Hauppage MVP'.
