Yes the Metadata mapped over fine, and yes I am using windows 7.  Also in My Movies you have to pick a format NTSC\PAL\480\720p\1080i\1080p.  If you could mapped that to the HD flag in DVRMS that would be awesome.

Okay. New version, v1.0.0.1 sets HD Flag to True if Video Standard in mymovies.xml is 720p, 1080i or 1080p.

gildavis, it sounds like you are referring "My Videos" whereas Ben is referring to Vista's "DVD Library" and Win7's "Movie Library".
The only way I have been able to make DVD library work at all is with a ripped DVD, not with DVR-MS. The "DVD Library" only seems to work if you have a VIDEO_TS folder with a VIDEO_TS.IFO file (even if it is a dummy file) in it. I have not found the secret to getting a DVR-MS file to play when it is in that directory structure.

I was giving him an alternative for DVR-MS files in "My Videos" without them showing up in "Recorded TV".

Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of this tool?  The whole advantage to DVRMS is you can embed the metadata and not have to mess with separate meta data files
I haven't figured out where Vista looks for the cover art. When I have the xml file linked to the movie file, the cover art shows up on the "Video Details" page. Otherwise you just see the film reel default picture. Any one thing that is not in the DVR-MS metadata seems to break that.

I think my process is a work-around to a short-coming in Vista, and I am open to suggestions.

When you have the XML file, the "cast + more" strip shows the artist name and his role on the next line. Without that data, you just get a list of actor's names.

I added roles in some of the DVR-MS file by using the format "<actor name> as <role>" just to see what it would look like.

The metadata populator is a great shortcut. I only have about 20 movies right now and it took me all afternoon to get them all populated using EditDvrmsMetadata.exe.

It would be great if you could embed the cover art so that it gets displayed. That would be the "holy grail" for me.

The IMDB ratings used by MyMovies is a 10-star system whereas Media Center uses an 8-star system (considering the half-stars). The rating conversion is as follows: 9,10(****); 8(***½); 7(***); 6(**½); 5(**); 4(*½); 3(*); 1,2(½).
Have you gotten the ½ to work? All the files I have that use the ½ do not show any rating at all in the "video details". Maybe it only works in 7 or in DVD Library? I have Vista and I'm looking in "Video Library".

With 7MC Movie Library, I think I remember seeing cover art so it was likely getting it from the folder.jpg placed by MyMovies. I'm not sure how DVD Library in Vista display's the cover art for Recorded TV movies.

I think this is a Vista bug. My natively recorded content that has half stars also doesn't display the rating in either Recorded TV or DVD Library. Hopefully, it is fixed in 7MC.

Yes, if there is a "folder.jpg" in the same folder as the DVR-MS file, it will show up on the "Video Library", but it does not show up on the "video details" page. That icon apparently is stored somewhere else, and does not show up unless the WM/DVDID, WM/MediaClassPrimaryID and WM/MediaClassSecondaryID are populated.

Since there is no cover art specified in mymovies.xml (only the folder.jpg file) , I assumed that it is the file in the DvdInfoCache that points to the cover art. I could be wrong, though.

To get a video thumbnail just create a jpg with the same name as the movie file.

    Exp
    moviename.dvrms & moviename.jpg.

I normally just copy my folder jpg and name rename it to the same as the video file.

Been there, done that. This does not work for me in Vista under the "Video Library". It only seems to work in the "DVD Library".

How about something for WTV and Win7?

So here's the 7MC Movie Library story in build 7100 with regards to DVR-MS container support:

    1. It is not necessary to place your DVR-MS files in the Recorded TV path as it was in Vista.

    2. Using a dvdid.xml file in each directory containing the DVR-MS file will give the Movie Library metadata with caveats to follow. The dvdid.xml will point to the appropriate xml info file in <User directory>\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ehome\DvdInfoCache. MyMovies has done a good job at giving the default option in the program to create these files automatically. Here's an example of what happens when I open up a DVR-MS file that hasn't been populated with metadata:

    ai_meta

Okay, now I'll start and then stop the movie:

    ai_resume

Notice the lack of metadata, but there's a thumbnail there that 7MC created. It appears that 7MC will be nice and create the thumbnail if WM/MediaIsMovie DVR-MS attribute is not set.

    3. Here's what happens when I open a DVR-MS file that has been populated with metadata:

    bm_meta

Okay, now I'll start and then stop the movie:

    bm_resume

That's weird, it relies on the DVR-MS metadata, but it didn't create that thumbnail for me because of the WM/MediaIsMovie attribute being set to true.

    4. And here's a DVR-MS file from Recorded TV in the Movie Library:

    ck_play

And now a start and stop:

    ck_resume

Hmmmm. It looks like the Recorded TV in the Movie Library always relies on the DVR-MS metadata while the DVR-MS file with the dvdid, uses a weird hybrid approach. Perhaps the cover picture is embedded into the actual DVR-MS file and that's what needs to happen to display it properly when stopping the movie. It looks like MS still has some work to do here to make everything behave properly in the Movie Library. It's clear though that the Movie Library is much more usable in 7MC than DVD Library in Vista at least when it comes to DVR-MS containers. I'll look into embedding the cover image as time permits.

When i use this program with Windows 7 RC it updated the file just fine but the info that Media Center displays is only the Perentel rating and the Genre in Movie Library but if i play the movie and press the info key it will show all the info. I think the problem is that My Movies Database is installed on another Computer so The DVDID.xml that My Movies made points to a place where there is no data and thats what Movie Library users but the info displayed form the info key is form the DVR-MS. But im just a guessing any body have a clue? i think alton987 post is the same problem

Please read my post from above. The Movie Library is using a strange hybrid approach with DVR-MS files. When you initially select the file, it uses the dvdid.xml file which points to the metadata stored in <User directory>\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ehome\DvdInfoCache. After you stop the program/press info, it uses the DVR-MS metadata.

I haven't installed MyMovies on Win7 yet. I just copied the DvdInfoCache from my Vista install to the Win7 install. That's all you need to do for your existing metadata to get the behavior described in my previous post.

Still does not work in Windows 7 RTM

Microsoft are you aware of this bug or is there a Reg Key to change the behavior

I found that all you have to do to get Metadata is have the file Named correctly and have the Year correct

You can set the year by right clicking on the dvr-ms file and going to the Details Tab then under the Media section type the correct year in the Year field

    or

You can populate the WM/Year filed with EditDvrmsMetadata.exe with the correct year

I have found that this works faster then using a dvdid.xml

and i also update swoon's code to do this. So if anyone is interested ill upload it.
