Here is the good news.  The author of DCUT -- the 10' dvr-ms editor - has released a new version of DCUT with new features, such as the ability to edit a file without compressing it.  This is great news.  Check it out here:

    http://www.inseattle.org/~dan/Dcut.htm

Lets give some props to the author of this amazing program.

Now the bad news -- there appears to be a bug in the program when editing files.  It consistently grinds to a halt and gives an error message when a file is about 40% complete.  Once this error is fixed (hopefully) this we truly be a dream come true!

I am using this version right now and it has successfully edited all of my shows without any errors.  What are you doing to make it fail?

    Thanks,

    I love dcut.

I did notice one problem with .95: The "Edited" and "Unedited" folders which are created by default in "My Videos" seem to be read-only. My projects in dcut would fail at the point when they are to be copied into those directories. As soon as I changed the permissions everything started working fine.

I haven't seen anyone else complain about this, so I'm wondering if it's the result of some security software that I'm running.

All in all, very cool application.

PS: does anyone know how I can "queue" my projects to be processed at a certain time (in the middle of the night)? I noticed all of the options in the configuration screen, but I didn't see how this would be possible.

I'm new at this, I got a new computer with Media Center OEM installed thinking it would let me record tv and burn dvds which I could play on a normal dvd player. I soon found it couldn't and went looking on the net for help. I downloaded Cut 0.95 and the Sonic encoders and it worked once (extremely well) but I can't get it to work again. I start by opening a dialup internet connection, open dCut Service, open Media Center/Other Programs. Click on dCut 0.95 I get "Please Wait Loading Files" displayed. No matter how long I wait nothing happens. If I click on the Cut DVR-MS Button I get a message box in the bottom right hand screen saying " Media Ceter was unable to load the page C:\Program Files\dCut\Cut Dvrms File(). The program or web site cannot be found. Ensure that the program is on the computer or you have a working internet connection." I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling dCut but that didn't work. Can anyone advise what I should try next?

That makes 2 of us looking for this app.  I was all hyped after reading what it does, only to be crushed by the "Sorry we've pulled the download" message when visiting the author's website.

Web searches only yield messages referring the reader to the developer's site to grab the download.

Is this guy against the distribution of his work by any means other than his own?  If not, can someone post it here for download?

PM or eMail would be GREATLY appreciated... I'm running out of room on my box and need to burn some stuff!

    Many thanks,

    Dave

I guess I'm #3.  If anyone can give a link to a mirror, it would be much appreciated.

I would like a copy if someone can send it  to me ...Thanks ....
  •

I also emailed the developer a few days ago to inquire whether dCut was available anywhere else, such as a mirror site.  I have not received any reply.  So please add me to the list of people that would very much appreciate having a copy of the program (v. 0.95.1) emailed to me or made available for download on someone's share site.

    Thanks!

i wonder.. do you think it would be 'wrong' to host the file temp until the dev/author gets his link back up?

once i get a copy of it (hopefully later today! hehe.. thanks dude!!)

i'll put it up on my site temp and post a link..

I have a copy that I can put up somewhere.  Anyone have a site that I can upload to?  I don't really want to just share it off my webserver as it uses just a normal cable internet connection with crappy upload speeds.

    Thanks,

    Jesse

Is this how this works? You make segments for the part you want to keep and then press "enqueue" and it cuts out everything but the segments you created? Correct?

How fast is the WMV conversion, by the way. I've been converting my stuff to divx with Graphedit. But if the WMV is significantly faster (graphedit takes about as long as the program's running time) i might give that a shot.
  •
I can host it if that's cool with the developer.

To note, GraphEdit doesn't take any amount of time to do a single thing. When you build your Filter Graph to transcode within GraphEdit, your waiting on the DivX Encoder (in this case) to encode.

If you configure the settings in DivX correctly, encoding is generally faster then WMV9 encode. That will differ on the settings for both however.
