Sorry to repost but it is more appropriate here than in the Vista forums
I've seen a couple requests for using the native apps (i.e. Movie Library) on custom strips this so you go: http://mikinho.com/wmc/start-menu-plus/
Note: I only tested on W7. I know it will not create the custom strip in Vista but the entry points will work if you use another app to add them to a start menu strip
I basically modified an existing app I wrote. This one will create a new Start Menu Strip called "Favorites" with the below entries. You can use WMCC to move them already or hide the strip using HideMediaCenterStrips but the entries will be available for use now in custom strips.
The app can actually handle any of the following but I only had it create the above by default: FMRadio, InternetRadio, LiveTV, ManageDisks, MovieLibrary, MorePrograms, MusicAlbums, MusicArtists, MusicSongs, MyMusic, MyPictures, MyTV, MyVideos, PhotoDetails, RecordedTV, RecorderStorageSettings, ScheduledTVRecordings, Slideshow, SlideshowSettings, Start, TVGuide, Visualizations...
I plan to merge the functionality of this, Media Center Launcher (mcrun) and Hide Menu Strips into a new app that will manage all your apps and start menu strips.
Let me know if it is useful.
Here is a screenshot of how I have it locked down for certain users
Don't know what is my actual issue but it just stalls out MC for me I have to force a close. Love the concept and actually would like to make two strips to seperate my Pictures & Videos. I really miss MCMenuMender are you planning on doing your own take on that?
I tried it on the PC and my extender.
Edit: I apologize to the Mods I didn't read the fine text under the Forum title. I am dealing with prerelease version of Windows 7.
I just tried it on two other systems. Are you running RTM?
In terms of Menu Mender, I'm not going to do a full replacement no as I don't want to do any resource editing. What the app will do is allow you two hide the native strips and create your own custom strips along with custom entries
Also, what edition are you running? I only tried on Ultimate and Enterprise, it is possible other editions hang as I'm referring the a string table for the names of the entry points as I did not want to hard code them. I did this so it would use your OS language rather them me hard coding them in English (i.e. Movie Library, Music Library,...)
I am still running RC Build 7100 32 Bit.
And that is a perfect solution for my needs did I miss the way to do it or is it still unreleased?
If you want to use Teamviewer let me know. It is RDP but without the limitations for free.
I believe RC had some bugs w/ custom start menu strips and full png images. I'm also using the RTM SDK which may be causing the hang.
I'll install a copy of RC and see if it errors
And it is not fully released yet, HideMediaCenterStrips will only hide native and custom strips. You can use WMCCCW to create new strips and add existing apps. Even though WMCCCW is available now I'm still going to add it all together into a single app for ease and so it can launch apps and close them w/ a preconfigured key
Well as to the strip application I will wait for your proper release no need to bits and piece it when you are releasing a fully funtional version soon enough.
And I hate that you need to install RC I am more than will to give you Teamviewer access if you want it.
As to the menu editting program you are releasing I have tried to use WMCCCW but there is no options to add default shortcuts like "Pictures & Videos". All it has listed that I recall is 3rd party applications. Even if it was to list it like "Pictures & Videos" it would be redundant for what I am hoping to accomplish. I want a single strip for "Pictures" and a single strip for "Videos". I was hoping to use the shortcuts directly from the "Favorites" strip you have created. I hope this all makes sense because in my head it does but I can never express my intentions properly in type.
It makes sense and that is the intent of the app, I believe WMCCCW isn't expanding REG_SZ_EXPAND properly. I'll see if I can work on this sooner than later, trying to get a new version of Yammm and two other plugins out there.
For RC, I checked and I don't have any VMs of W7 RC left so if it wouldn't be too much trouble I'll take your offer. PM me the details and I'd be happy to see if I can make this backwards compatible.
PM sent...
I am not that eager lol the forum got buggy right as I pushed post I guess. It said I needed admin permissions to post and I figured it was just an error so I retried it evidently 3 times total. Sorry lol...
