I have a standard RC6 remote from Microsoft that's beginning to die, the keys have all become intermittent. I'm sure all it needs is a good contact cleaning.
Has anyone taken one of these things apart? How is the case held together? Where are the "secret" tabs that I have to break, err, I mean unlatch? Or is the case welded together and can't be taken apart?
Any help is appreciated.
There is a single screw in the battery compartment that needs to be removed (torx head I think).
Once the screw is out, you can simply slide either your fingernail, or a flat blade between the silver and black sections and gently prise the black section outwards to unclip the (8) tabs.
I find it easier to start at the back as the tabs at the very front are the hardest to unclip without breaking the silver "socket"
good luck
Rob.

I'm opening my RC6 remote now for the first time. The single screw mentioned above is black, easy to miss, and requires a torx T-6 drive. I agree that one should start at the rear. You not only have to pry the bottom (black) away from the top (grey), but pry the bottom outward as well, so it is a downward and outward prying on the bottom. The amber lens is not attached to either the top or bottom (I was worried about breaking it)
If you need more than a cleaning, try CaiKote 44. One source is here:www.mcmelectronics.com/product/200-315
Be careful as it is easy to damage the plastic clips. I trashed mine when I tried to open it.
I have about 5 of them lying around. I think I've opened up all of them - didn't break any and wasn't overly cautious when prying them apart. They seem sturdy enough to me. Perhaps there are different manufacturers or materials in use.
