    I read on one of the posts that someone has tricked MCE so that no tuner card is needed.  I have built a 2nd MCE but have no tuner card in it.  I want to be able to use some of the TV features but cannot being there is no tuner card.  This other post mentioned a regestry hack that would fool MCE into thinking there was a tuner card.  Anyone aware of what this regestry entry is?

    Ummm... you didn't need a tv tuner in the first place, it's just a bonus for some of the main features of Media Center. What would tricking Media Center into thinking it had a tuner in it do (by the way, there is no way that I know of to do that with a registry entry, it's all in the drivers)? It's not like you'll magically be able to watch tv without one.

    He says he wants TV features without a tuner card.

    Of course he could watch recorded shows from another MCE, but I'm not sure of any way to watch live TV on a standalone MCE without a tuner card. If SoftSled were a reality then it would work.

    Search the fourms. I am sure someone posted how to do this. I think you can just install a tuner card setup MCE and pull it out. Works if you are setting up a second one and you only have 1 tuner. Or I think someone poosted the reg keys they copied from a MCE box with a tuner and merged that to the second one and it worked. Good Luck.

    Make your registry keys look like this, or just copy the lines into notepad then save it as something.reg and double click it.  I think thats how I did it.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig]
    "iVideoSource"=dword:00000002
    "iBroadcastStandard"=dword:00000001
    "fHasSTB"=dword:00000000
    "fHasDVB"=dword:00000000
    "Version"="65537"

    Thank you very much.  I will try this and let you know.

    For those of you wanting to know why,  I want to be able to view my Recorded TV, see the Guide, and edit/convert the Recorded TV.

    I know that I will not be able to watch or record TV with a tuner card but should be able to do all the other options.

    Thanks again.

    That regestry hack didn't work.  i am able to getinto My TV and see the recorded TYV and Live TV options but no guide option.  I also tried to get into the TV Setting and it said that I didn't have a tuner card.

    Does anyone know of a way to trick MCE into thinking it has a tuner card installed

    I want to be able to use all the functions expect watch live TV and record TV.  Mostly the guide and the ability to edit some of the recorded TV done on my other MCE.

    That reg hack is an australian trick so they can import their own guide. the us version checks the tuners. pain in the neck. You might be able to just use the my tv reg change to make my tv show up. I dont have reg info handy on where this is, but its been talked about lately.

    Go to a local computer peripheral dealer with a fair return policy ala best buy, and purchase a pvr card compatible with MCE. Install it in your computer. Set everything up. Remove the card. Realize you don't want it. Return it.

    Not entirely ethical, but you're not breaking any law I know of, and maybe the next person to buy the card you returned will get a discount.

    ok I got this to work ummm kinda but I cheated.

    I copied the EPG folder from another computer dropped it in and then dealt with it erroring out for a while.  Now it works fine.  The thing kept trying to download but couldnt for some reason then jsut started working.

    Im not sure which I copied it was either c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\ehome\epg or c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\ehome\epg

    Regarding the "copied the EPG folder" hack: do you mean that it spawned a number of errors at first, after the first reboot, but that after that, you were able to use all features except Live TV without error?

    Specifically, I'd like to be able to use DCut on my second PC (that has a ton of CPU horsepower going to waste) that does not have any TV tuner or hardware encoder installed.  I don't even want to compress - I'd just like to be able to edit/cut the .DVR-MS to clip commercials out of the programs, and then be able to burn TV to DVD or CD.

    Are these kinds of features possible once you've successfully "tricked" the non-tuner MCE to be able to "work" as you've indicated?

    I dont know, I havnt played with Dcut at all....

    Hi all

    I tried this hack and it did indeed make 'My TV' appear on my menu.  I pressed the guide button on my remote and it asked my to set one up.  It connected to the internet and then gave me a choice of 3 guides for my area.  I think they were:

    Analogue cable, Telewest and something else.

    Anyway I tried clicking on one, and it says downloading 14 days worth of listings, then the progress bar starts moving and then after about a minute of not doing anything it says something along the lines of:

    Cannot download new guide: Error Code 23.

    Anyone any ideas?
