I could not get the hack to work with the Digital cable but I Found the Antenna had a listing for HD in my area. http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?method=decideFwdForLineup&lineupId=PC:48091&zipcode=48091&setMyPreference=false
I used the hack with Id="PC:48091" and got the right PBS stations and Guide by setting up WTVSTDT 56.1 WTVSTDT2 56.2 and they even have a WTVSTDT3 56.3 third channel. The guide is right. However, It will not upgrade. I keep getting media center warning, that that guide is no longer available and that I need to rerun setup.
What gives? The guide is available, I can see it here http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ZCGrid.do?method=decideFwdForLineup&lineupId=PC:48091&zipcode=48091&setMyPreference=false
Can anyone help?
Hey primetime34, I live in Boise, 83706, and got the hack to work. I used the Cableone digital cable provider in zap2it, and the ID I used in my registry entries is: ID11474X
This worked for me in Chicago. I used comcast digital cable and mapped over to the ATSC (mainly for wttw and all the sub-channels.)
I did not do the registry hack, i simply configured comcast digital after I had the antenna configured and then proceeded to delete all the comcast channels from the guide. Because I had my OTA already configured, I guess it never deleted my ATSC channels. so I just remapped the pbs channels and all is good after a few reboots. I guess we now wait and see after the guide gets an update or two...
How do I access the registery?
This is insane that Microsoft markets their MCE machines as the be all end all for my digital life and I have to hack the registery to get it to show the right channels. Crazy!
I've set up my listing using the local digital cable listings.
This works fairly well, but some subchannels don't have a corresponding cable listing. For most of these the guide data just says "Data not available" which is fine, but for a few it just duplicates the program guide info for the primary (.1) channel. This is confusing and I'd rather those subchannels just said "Date not available" as well. I tried to select "Don't show program listings for this channel" from the Add Listings to Channel option in media Center tasks, but this does not change the behavior - it still lists the guide info from the .1 channel for all subchannels.
Any way to fix this? Perhaps some altering of the xml pref files?
I've manage to solve my own problem (see post above) so I thought I'd post in case anyone having similar issues. In the process I think I also solved another issue I was having where a couple of stations would lose their reassigned channel listings over time.
I first started over again from scratch. This time when I added the subchannels I renamed them to the exact name that the Cable provider uses. I got these specific names by going into the Media Center tasks and selecting Add Listings to Channel under Guide. You can scroll through all the possible channel names just to see what options are there, but not actually change anything. Then when I added the channels I knew the exact name to use. For channels that did not have a listing with the cable company I changed the name to the actual channel name. After adding the channels all the guide listings were correct for the channels that had Cable listings and the other channels now show "No Data availble" instead of the incorrect lsiting. The only one that had to be changed was for one of the .1 channels (9.1) which I changed using the Add Listings to Channel menu.
BTW, I'm in the San Francisco bay area and found that Alameda Telecom has the best listings especially for the PBS (KQED) subchannels as they show the correct times that the HD channels sign on and off during the day. The Comcast cable listings only show the cable feed versions whcih broadcast 24hours/day so you end up with listing for some hours when the OTA station is actually off the air. The zap2it code for Alameda Telecom is CA61080X
This hack works for both Vista and 2005. The hard part is finding the provider ID from zap2it. Then just change the 2 registry entries and you're in business.
When adding the subchannels you have to make sure you name them with the exact name that they have in the cable listing. Due to a bug in Vista, it loses all manually associated listings. The subchannel has to be named exactly so Vista can do an auto-association, which is permanent.
