Glenagoolie:bxs122 since what date are you having this problem. See my threadhttp://thegreenbutton.com/forums/171611/ShowThread.aspx#171611on my issue ?
The problem started for last week me after updating my mobo.
bxs122: Powers:on the 360 media center press y this sets up a new connection you get your pass key and its all sorted I am having the same problems now - switched mobo and went to reset the extender and now stuck. This was working ever since I installed Vista and now that it is not working I know it has got to do something with my having installed a new mobo. I have followed this thread and tried everything but pressing y - why, because it is greyed out. How are you guys pressing y on the xbox360 to generate a new key? Ok - for anyone experiencing this issue but who have had the extender setup and working once before then the problem may be as I have found, a certificate issue. The following cleared things up for me and I was able to readd the 360 as a Vista MCE extender. *note this worked for Vista Ultimate - I do not know what snap-ins were removed for Home and/or Home Premium. Run the "mmc" console Add/Remove the "Certificates" snap-in selecting Computer Account when prompted On the left tree select 'Console Root' -> 'Certificates' -> 'Personal' -> 'Certificates' Like me you may see the Microsoft Windows Media Center Extender Host certificate, if so then delete it. Now retry to add your extender

Bataar:I'm having the exact same problem. Error code -209 in event viewer. This all started happening after I upgraded the Zune software on my PC. Come on, Microsoft, you can't even get your two toys to work together. Thank God I have a PS3 that allows me to stream media to it.
I am another with the same problem and I've tried everything suggested, including uninstalling OneCare, deleting the certificate, and viewing the event log - but I have different error messages. I've tried doing research on the error messages but I'm quickly over my head. Can you help me?
These are the errors:
"Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network, and that your network is functioning correctly. DETAIL - Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed. "
Followed by
"Windows Media Center Extender setup cannot create account Mcx1 for device 'uuid:10000000-0000-0000-0200-0017FA650D69'. Error code: 0x8007012b."
"Windows Media Center Extender setup failed with the following error code: -205."
I just wanted to post my experience.
I purchased the Linksys DMA2200 which forced me to upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate from XP MCE2005 (which worked like a charm).
Aside from the standard Vista annoyances, I could not get the Extender to complete its setup. Vista sees the Extender, then I give it the key, answer a few more questions and get the generic Configuration Error screen. Nice waste of an afternoon.
I eventually gave up and put back my MCE 2005 (I made an image foreseeing Vista trouble) and put back my faithful old XBOX (original) media extender.
I had Zune installed on my XP, could this have been the issue? I suppose a clean install of Vista is more appropriate?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
