hi people. when i'm listening to my wma files... as you do! i get an error sometimes.
a popup box appears within MCE stating 'audio error 80010001' i dont understand why i get this. it is completely random to my knowledge, happening on some wmas, then not on others. but it doesn't just do it to the same wma files though. i only have wmas, not mp3s. i have a cmedia 9768 chipset with the beta drivers available from cmedia. it seems to work alright with the tv and doesn't skip or anything.just wondering if anyone else is having the same problems? thanks
thanks for replying. i'm glad its not just me! do you use cmedia chipset as well??
does anyone else receive this and no use the cmedia chipset? cheers
I also get that same error message on occasion, I thought it was related to the DRM issue, the reason I say this is, I'd often see it when trying to play a file that would call for the DRM update, and once I finally ran the update all my music play but still on occasion I get that error.
cusford:when you say DMR, do you mean DRM? how come everyone is getting loads of updates and i've on;ly downloaded about 6!
Yes you're correct, sorry about the double typeO
As far as updates there should be about 10 new updates tomorrow, but when I said update in reference to DRM, thats when you have music that needs to be comfirmed by Media Player because I downloaded it from MSN Music.
I see this as well, and it may worth asking Ian about this. I have a feeling this is a result of a bit error in the track (it happens on the same tracks which are always ripped from cd's). This would not happen in mce, but I think vista is less "tolerable" of bit errors.

I also see this error, as well as "Unkown Audio error". Although the sound plays fine. One real pain though is that if I try to show any Visualisation while playing any music I always get the Unkown audio error displayed. Then an error stating that Visualisations are not available.
This behaviour only seems to affect VMC, as all visuals and Audio are just fine using media player. In fact if I want to play visualisations anymore I just minimise VMC and play media player full screen.
I thought that the problem was due to a 3rd party visual at first, I use Sound spectrum's G-Force, but they very quickly advised that this looks like a problem with VMC as many people are seeing it. The actual repro steps they sent me are identcal to what I see as per below:
We are aware of some Reaktek audio driver problems within Vista and they seem to be causing problems within Media Center when our visualizer is in use, but at this point we believe the problem is with either Media Center and/or the Realtek audio drivers. We have notified the Windows Media Center development team about the bug, but we don't have a status report about resolution.
Below is what we know thus far about re-creation / possible work-around for this bug:
VISTA MEDIA CENTER - "UNKNOWN AUDIO ERROR"
------------------------------------------
Known steps to re-create this error:
1) Install Vista RTM (on a Dell Dimension 3000, P4 HT, Intel built-in graphics, Creative SB Audigy SE).
2) Install Vista sound drivers from creative.com. Playing music and visuals in WMP is OK.
3) Start MCE, do "Express Setup"
4) Play a song, and when upon pressing the Visualize button, you get the error message "Unknown Audio Error. Restart MCE or restart your computer". Note that the song is already playing before this message.
5) Restart MCE and the same thing happens.
6) In MCE, go to Tasks > Setup > Music > Visualizers and an error message appears. Error says something about going to the parental controls control panel.
7) Exit MCE, opened parental controls and closed them (no action required?).
8) Start MCE and now a list of visuals appears in Tasks > Setup > Music > Visualizers.
9) Try to start a vis while a song is playing, and a different audio error message appears (which also prints an error code).
10) Restart MCE (or the computer?), and the visuals now work.
If you come across anything else related to this bug (Bug #218 in our database), please let us know and we will log the additional information.
I wish I could find a way to resolve it though as it is a pain looking for the mouse rather than the remote....

Yes, we're aware of the 80010001 error and feel we have a solution.
As for the visualization error, we're still investigating this one.
Noah,
I get this error when changing albums. Never used visualizations. Using a claro soundcard. When can we expect a fix on this? The only other issue I have with MC is loosing Australia/Losing Channels issue, which currently has a fix in testing.
Cheers,
Tim
Well said. When can we expect a hotfix or update for this?
