Losing audio in FFDshow is common if you have enabled the Codec - but not configured the Mixer (in the menu)

Go down in the left Menu and find [Mixer] and select your speaker configuration (just try with 2/0 stereo to begin with).

Then close WMP and start the highdef avi file.
I just tested it myself. I immediately lost sound when i ticked off the Mixer :)

Hmmm, thanks for quick reply, but we're not quite there yet.
The audio mixer thing worked, but just for WMP11, not for Media Center.
The strange thing is, that WMP is still complaining that it cannot find AUDIO codecs, and will display a little 'x' cross thingy next to the file name, BUT it still plays the file with audio.

SO I guess VMC is still not playing the file cos it cannot find the audio codec.

movie with .divx file extension won't play in Media Center either, will play in WMP, WMP will complain, but it will play it anyway.

    All help much appreciated!!

I am just wondering, is the HD problems got something to do with H.264 decoding?? I see in your first post in this thread to use ffdshow for everything EXCEPT H.264, but when I look at the Video Config in ffdshow, it shows in the codecs page as enabled.

Confused and getting a bit fed up with Vista!

FFDShow and MatrosaSplitter works together :)

Also - just rename .divx to avi

    Help please
In  (6) I cannot find the option for power dvd on the dropdown list.
I have power dvd suite 5.5 installed (the latest one which includes power dvd 7.2 express)
I have followed all your advice & everything else works fine.

Try and see if your Suite has an update available online :)

Which codecs (in VMCD) do you have to choose from in the list?

I have ffdshow set up with spdif. I have 3 divx files with 5.1 ac3. When I play them my receiver shows that it is receiving 5.1 DD. However on two of them the output is only stereo. On my XP system they work ok.

Try and write an email to the support people at Cyberlink - it sounds like an incompatibility with the Suite and 64bit

If you open ffdshow Audio decoder configuration while playing the files - you can navigate to "info and Debug". It will show you what the audio input is and what the output is - Like input 6 channel AC3 384kb audio - Output 48Khz 2/0 stereo.

If nothing shows up in there when playing some of the files - it means that some other codec is trying to decode.

When I play a divx file in WMP then a ffdshow icon appears in the task bar. I assume that means the decoder is being used. But when I open ffdshow and select "info and debug", there is no info.

When ffdshow is decodeing - two icons popup...one for audio and one for video.

Double check that you have enabled (ffdshow audio conf) mp1, mp2 and mp3 and that libmad is selected as the decoder.

I'm using ffdshow for audio and the divx decoder for video.

I have enabled mp1-3 but this file uses ac3. I have that set up for spdif which may be why there is no info.

Looking at the forum on here https://www2.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=31117958&postID=115410171238162587

it appears that this is a problem with 64 bit Vista & third party codecs not regestering with Media Centre.

Hopefully someone will help to find a soloution.

    Thanks for your help.
