Will try out how it works with iPhone in a couple of days when my girlfriend is out ;)
  •

I converted some dvr-ms's to the iPod 640 setting last night and the iPod won't accept them as playable video.  Any ideas?  Trying the 320 setting today.  Maybe a iPod H264 conversion setting?

Let me know if you need any more info from my side. This was with 1.06 Beta5.

Have you tried BETA5 with encode pack 2?

    Hi Derek,

I sent you an email asking about trying out the beta, but I haven't heard back. I'd love to try it out to see if I can get watchable WMV files through my Xbox 360.

Installed Beta 5 Encode Update 2 tonight, it runs ShowAnalyzer then quits to idle without converting the file. Uninstalled and installed 1.0.5 and it reencodes fine, uninstalled then reinstalled update 2 but still quits to idle running ShowAnalyzer.

I tried a variety of different settings - h.264, DivX at different qualities and WMV - all with the same result.

In the event log, did the encode happen at all or did it try and fail (time taken <5 seconds)?

Looks like it tried and failed. The Time Taken for both passes is 00:00:00.1020000

I experienced the same exact thing.

I downloaded Beta 5 and directly installed Update 2 (without installing Update 1), it seemed to run through ComSkip, but stops short of encoding in any format.

I uninstalled, resinstalled Beta 5, installed Update 1, and it seems to work now. The link to Update 1 is no longer available on the website, but just changed the suffex of the download link from "Encode2" to "Encode1" and it downloaded, it's still on the webserver.

I haven't tried to install Update 2 after Update 1 yet, but that might do the trick...

Beta testers, MCEBuddy 1.0.6 BETA 6 Available.
It's been a while coming as time has been short.

New items in Beta 1.0.6 BETA 6
I think we're close to release with this one, so please get your feedback in.
    - New encodes again.  Hopefully this should fix the drop-through no-encode problems some have been having in BETA5.
    - The return of the optimised encodes.  A significant amount of effort has gone into getting more robust 1-pass (faster) encodes for DivX and H.264.  Please test them and let me know if they work.  Especially if they crash (mencoder crash) or drop through (encode takes 1 second and doesn't work).  Check the event log.
    - More error checking and logging to the windows event log
    - The Microsoft Hotfix for Vista64 has been removed as it doesn't always work or install.  If you're using Vista64 you'll have to type the path in if you want to change it until Microsoft releases a public bugfix update to .Net framework.

    Encode details:
H.264 now is a 1-pass encode that works with commercial skipping.  Changed to MP3 audio to solve video-audio sync problems
XVid has now a 1 pass and 2 pass encode.  1 Pass encode is now the default and is higher in quality than the previous 1 pass encodes
Updated profiles for iPod, PSP, iriver - guys with these devices please tell me how they go
New Zen Vision encode - guys with these devices please tell me how they go

I would like to give BETA 6 a try. So far using 1.0.5 I haven't been able to get WMV files that play without skipping through my XBox 360 extender. Please send me an email with the link. Thanks!

Installing Update 1 resolved the problem for me. I'll install the new build after work today and give that a spin.

Beta testers, MCEBuddy 1.0.6 BETA7 has been released.  It contains the following changes:

    • The final set of encodes for release, barring any new bugs
    • H.264/AAC encode that should (hopefully) have no audio sync issues
    • ShowAnalyzer integration now uses the DEFAULT ShowAnalyzer profile as having one for MCEBuddy was confusing people
    • ShowAnalyzer is not set to invisible by default as this was confusing people (MCEBuddy runs it invisibly though)
    • ShowAnalyzer is now directly supported on the Vista64 build
    • Some UI fixes and changes

I intend to release 1.0.6 (gold code) on Sunday, so please get any bugs you find in as soon as you can!

    Cheers

I have just got into the Media Centre PC game and am really loving it and MCEBuddy seems a great tool, I just a quick question for the seasoned MCEBuddy users, if you schedule it to run overnight does it wake from sleep mode to do this and then go back to sleep mode?

    Many thanks

Smarter integration with sleep mode (other than just suspend/resume) is slated for version 3. Check the releases page on the mcebuddy site.

    Hey Derek,

I have been using Beta 6 for a few days and it works perfectly!  One feature I want to request is two-fold: 1) be able to select shows by title to be transcoded instead of one or all & 2) for the resulting files to hold onto the meta data so iTunes can sort them properly.

Thank you for all your hard work, and a very elegant and easy to use program.
