    I have just purchased a New CPU for my Vista Home Premium Media Centre PC and after installing it the TV card doesn't work and I get the following messages in Event Viewer:

    " Faulting Application EhRecvr.exe version 6.0.6000.16386. time stamp 0x4549b54f, faulting module Indiv01.key, version 11.06.6000.7000, timestamp 0x46dec145, exception code 0xc00000005.  Fault offset 0x000ad7dc, process id 0x1398, application start time 0x01c8209e6b5f227c."

    If I revert the CPU back to the old one all is fine.

    The specs are as follows:

    Old CPU = AMD Sempron 3000+ (Socket AM2)

    New CPU = AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+

    MOBO = Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G

    RAM = 1GB DDR 667 Mhz

    HDD = Seagate SATA2 250GB

    Any help is most appreciated as the performance of the Sempron is poor to say the least and badly want to upgrade.

    Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

    Wow.  I really want to try this now.  I hate answering you without a real way of helping but I do have a few suggestions.

    First I would post this in Ask the Media Center TV Team group.  Jessica may be able to forward it to one of the hardware guys.

    Next I would try going into the device manager and check which processor it shows.  If it still shows the sempron you should uninstall it then search for new hardware.  It will be under system devices, and may be several devices.  I tried it out on 2 machines and niether crashed, but I didnt change the cpu just removed the devices then scanned for new hardware.

    Last thing I can suggest is to rerun MVC setup.  It may have set up something CPU specific that isnt changing.

    Will have a look and see if it thinks the old sempron is still in there also gonna try updating the Bios as even though the board seems to recognise the CPU fine I havn't updated the bios in about 14 months so possibly a fix in there.

    If it is the MCE setup would this not then only cause a problem once MCE is started as it happens as soon as windows is logged in?

    Will report back once tried updating the BIOS.

    Updated the bios to version F13 (the latest available) made no difference.

    Removed almost all drivers etc and let windows vista set them up again, again made no differerence.

    As a last resort wiped the PC and done a fresh install and viola all working. So no definitive answer but hope this might help anyone else that gets the problem.

    The mention of "indiv01.key" as the faulting module would tend to suggest that the error is DRM related. Hardware changes to your PC can cause DRM validation errors as the content protection mechanism is no longer certain that you are running the software on the same machine on which it was originally installed.

    I've seen this cause problems on systems several times with errors ranging from the exact problem you are describing to Media Centers no longer being able to record premium channels through cable boxes to even IE crashes.

    Sorry I didn't see your post until now, but in the future if you experience this error you can correct it by reseting your DRM. This is accomplished by deleting all of the files in the directory c:\programdata\microsoft\vista\drm. Do -not- delete the directory itself, only its contents. Once done, windows will generate a new DRM key specific to your current hardware configuration. Note that anything recorded on the old system that is DRM protected will not be playable after this procedure.

    Thanks very very much for this answer, it's the only correct answer that I've found with Google. Even in the microsoft support pages I couldn't find this very easy sollution. Why do they make an event ID so unclear, and difficult.

    I almost reached the point that I would reinstall my pc this evening, and then at the last moment I found your article. I deleted the data including the hidden CACHE directory. (in my case it was not \microsoft\vista\drm but microsoft\windows\drm

    Then I've started the service again but that resulted in stopping directly as before. So rebooted the system and everything works again.

    Thanks!!!

    I had the same problem, couldnt play recoded shows or record new shows (tuners went missing).  deleting the files in the windows/drm/cache folder did the trick me me as well after a reboot.

    thanks for the heads up on what to do.
