Can I ask do you need to hook the extender up to a tv, or can you do it with a monitor only

    Thanks

Providing you have compatible outputs/inputs. You may need extra speakers if the monitor does not have them, probably wont be great even if they do. e.g HDMI. > HDMI/DVI + RCA Audio

so just for the hell of it i decided to try connecting a USB hard drive to the USB port on my DMA2200, and surprisingly when I did so a message comes up on the VFD stating "USB Drive detected press..." and the message gets cutoff.  then once you disconnect it a mesage stating "USB Drive removed" comes is displayed.  i navigated through the linksys menus and through the extender menu and I didnt see any options for accessing the drive.  of course it was late and I cant remember if the drive was FAT32 or NTFS, so I gave up after only a couple of minutes.  A buddy of mine had just given me some TopGear episode on a 1.8 inch drive and I thought it would be cool to watch before falling asleep, oh well.

    Thanks Alan

What Ive found is that a 2 year old Viewsonic vx924 with a DVI doesnt work from HDMI to DVI, all you get is a blank screen, but there is something being transmitted, from the extender to the monitor as the light goes green on the monitor.

With a new Samsung 2232bw all works fine and dandy, although ironically, as this is the main monitor from my media centre, the picture is rather shocking and very pixellated, Id love to get the viewsonic working, as I dont see why it doesnt but am faced with buying another monitor just for the extender

My best idea was to get a vga to scart/composite cable and try that with the viewsonic, although the man in maplins said it wouldnt work, which wasnt great either being corrected by him, or finding a cul de sac

If you have any ideas love to hear them

    Thanks

    ...

Sorry to hear that. I assume that the Viewsonic DVI works from a PC OK? I guess it would switch automatically etc?

I'm sure a bit of googling may help!

    Cheers

There is no reason they can't make that work, but it would have to take place via the local UI and not the Extender.  The D-Link Extender does this very nicely, and of course the Xbox 360 does too.

The only way this will work nicely is if your LCD monitor has a native resolution of 1280x720 or 1920x1080.  As you might know an LCD at it's non-native resolustion will look horrible.

Volume control is the other issue as said above.  Extenders don't have local volume control, so if you were to connect external speakers they would need IR control or you would have to manually adjust the volume locally (if they are PC speakers).

It would be cheaper and a better experience just to buy a $200-$300 LCD TV that has included speakers.

    WOL issue resolved.

I picked up a cheap Dynex card which is also Realtek RTL8139 based and it's doing the job.

Good deal!  Do you find the wake up behavior to be similar to what I described earlier - where you have to hit Cancel and attempt a second connection via the Linksys menu?

My NIC supports all the correct states (including directed packet) and I can't get this working with my DMA2200 and VMC Sp1 PC. Would you mind sending us all the configuration.

Also what do you do when using the extender to invoke the wakeup behaviour (e.g. do you choose the cancel option on the extender when it initially doesn't wait long enough for the PC to wake up)?
