What happens when you run the MSI file? If its giving a compatibility error, its easily fixed by editing the MSI with orca, and removing the "launchcondition" option.
gildavis Just checking, but when I said compatibility mode, I meant: Right-click on the .exe Select "Properties" Select "Compatibility" tab Check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select XP from the drop-down Hit "Apply" and "OK" Run program

Correct. I have tried compatibility in most modes available
TheKingsofMS I don't know about everyone else, but I've used this changer with Vista Ultimate x64 and now 7 Home Premium x64 without issue.

REALLY? Oh crap I thought we 'had' to install the Sony software. Now I feel I fool. I shall play tonight and let you know.
Thanks for this!
I can confirm that sony software install is not required. Actually if I remember correctly it borks things up pretty well.
It will take a minute for MC to prompt you after you start it-and is available to only one MC session. Don't get overly excited though, these things are loud and slow. I recommend using them only for mass ripping.
Well.
Sure enough, I had to wait over two minutes in the movies section of MCE then, WHAMMO - started checking the disks.
Thanks to all who contributed.
One question remains: How do I go about using it for audio CD's through MCE as opposed to just DVD's?
Glad to hear you got it working!
Audio CD's in the changer huh? You've got me. I ripped all mine and placed them on my home server. I only use the changer for DVD's. Maybe someone else knows.

Audio CDs is the one thing I do NOT have working. DVDs are fine. It will only play the first track, there is no AMG data on the song or album while playing, and the Sony software does not accurately reflect what CD status is (what CD is in the drive). The Disk Manager still works ok for ejecting and browsing disks.
I gave up and ripped alll my CDs and just use the VGP for DVDs. (which seem to be on their way out anyway)
Scott.
Why is it that every time MS puts out a new OS I find myself feeling like a noob? I am experiencing a similar problem, with the exception that the changer was not recognized by Windows 7 x64 on a parallel install. I opened device manager, uninstalled the generic cd-rom, which was incorrect, turned off the unit, unplugged the firewire cable- plugged it back in and turned it on. This time it recognized the drive, but returned a Code 43. I power-cycled the unit, the error went away and it produced a new Category, "Media Changer Devices" as well as the listing under DVD/CD-Rom drives. However, it still hasn't updated the library or shown up in media player as a changer. I'm going to re-boot the pc now, so will return with the results.
After the reboot, the changer appears to be working very well. Some idiosyncracies of note: Media Center is the only app which sees the changer as a changer rather the just a disk drive. On scanning newly loaded disks, MC only sees the first newly inserted disk, and reports the scan is finished. If you close MC, reopen, and go to the Movie Library it will perform another scan and find the rest.
Since this was a clean parallel install, I will either have to repair the first, or continue to add drivers, software, and data to this one. Much work yet to do.
