    PLUCKYHD:

yes the out of band is locked on both tuners no problem there.

I called cox asked them to send a "init" and they said they did but I saw nothing on the traces screen so they are sending out another tech tomorrow. Don't really think this is necessary but didn't have the energy to argue.

you need to request a HIT.. the INIT just validates the card... the hit will start the channell matching... Your VTs will start to go up... That's when you know you are good...

Yeah they sent several to the second tuner last night I thinkt it is a bad cable card as I can still tune the local hd's with it.

At least I still have one good tuner for all the channels until they come out friday.

Okay guys I have been studing the cable card that doesn't work on it's webpage and the one that does work closely the only difference I notice is in the in the card tab and then cablcar CA screen under system it says status the tuner that works says "ready" the one that doesn't it says"not staged"

Am I right in assuming it is probably a cable card problem?

It's defiantly either the card or the pairing.  At this point I would just ask them to swap the card.

I just went through the same crap with Comcast.

After having several technicians come down and verify my signal quality, thousansds of re-hits, etc, I finally lost it and got connected to upper level support.  I read off all my pairing numbers to them and they called me back later that night to inform me of some discrepencies when the cards were provisioned (the numbers were wrong I guess).  They reset them, re-hit my equipment (in the correct order), and ever since then all is good. I guess when they "hit" your equipment at your house, the addressing has to be done properly, like most complicated devices first and so on.  Cable cards first, cable boxes, and then cable modem.  Someone clarify if people are blowing smoke up my butt.

Make sure they have the correct numbers - I had to argue with them for several min before they would even connect me to the person who could verify that (apparently the technician is the only one who can read the numbers to them).  After several days work missed and time spent they still did not see my argument about "why couldn't you just send the cards to me".  I guess the real reason behind that is that the technician needs to SEE what you are putting them into.  The tech support people still have no idea what media centers are apparently.

Good luck, and let us know.

Great news Plucky!!  My install is scheduled for Tuesday morning.  I am hoping to have all of this information summarized and ready to help during my install.

I do have one question though.  How can you tell that one tuner is working and getting all the channels but the other is not?  Are you unplugging one and only running on one tuner?  Are you setting one show to record and then trying to record a second?  What is the easiest way to tell?

    Thanks and congrats!!

This was the hardest part for me as I thought they were both working after the second tech came out and I told him all was okay he could leave. But to answer your question yes hitting record and then changing channels is the easiest way. But I think when you hit record media center by default uses the tuner not in use so I was just getting a no signal error when my second tuner wasn't working. You can check which tuner is on what channel in the webpage of the tuners to see which one is tuned where.

If I had to do it over again I would have set them up one at a time and saved a tech trip. I didn't reboot everytime I unhooked/hooked a tuner in I would simply pull the power to what tuner I wanted to shut off.

    1. In VMC go to Tasks, Settings, TV, TV Signal, Digital Turner Diagnostics ( select Yes to continue) and select the turner you want to test
    2. Under diagnostics, select Digital Turner Diagnostics and then Signal,

Once you select Signal, a window will appear allowing you to visibly determine if your TV config is functioning, repeat the steps for each turner.

Do you know what menu in the ati;s webpage it will say paired on?

    1. if you have not already, install/configure the DCT to you machine... this will allow you to verify that at least your turner(s) work
    2. once you have the turners installed, update the firmware on the cards : https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/ati_dct_firmware_116h-vista.exe (when using the program to update your firmware, do one at a time)
    3. when the tech comes out, install the cablecards and start your system (once you system starts open VMC and follow the prompts to activate the cards... during the activation the cards are paired... if under the DCT diagnostics you can see information for CableCard(tm) Paring, then you are paired

Not trying to steal this guys thread,
but i ran those updates on my ATI tuners, and now i cannot get any TV on my extenders....

I am playing with the VIIV shared settings now - but has anybody had this problem before?

Should I have NOT updated the firmware?  Everything was working great before this.

    I fixed it.

For some reason one of the tuners was re-recognized and i had to re-enable media sharing through the VIIV settings (this may not even be necessary???).
Regardless i rebooted everything like 20938409328049283 times and it is working now.
So far so good, i even think the extender is working a little quicker (menu changes are not as laggy?!?!).

If anybody else has this problem hopefully this is the fix.

    Sorry for stealing the thread.
