Hi
I've read a few old posts about changing the location for Recorded TV, I'd like to change my location from the default where is that? To D:\Data\Recorded TV
Some people suggest:
From within media center...Settings->TV->Recorded TV->TV Storage->Storage Location
Others have said to use Symbolic links to redirect the default folder to your new location.
I guess the other option would be to edit the registry some where?
What is the best recommendation for doing this?
Also does this registry edit work on Vista? for refreshing recorded TV shows on a secondary Vista Media Center?
As I have a Vista Media Center laptop in addition to my main VMC PC that I would like to be able to access and playback the recorded TV content on. Will I be able to do this on a laptop with no tuner hardware installed?
Edit: I'll be using OTA Digital Freeview DVB-T source on the main VMC PC when my new TV Tuner card arrives.
Any other tips or pointers for a newbie user with the TV side of things in Vista Media Center?
Many Thanks
Stuart

This is how it's done. Have you tried and it didn't work?
As for watching the recorded tv files on your laptop, just share your recordedTv folder, map it on your laptop and use WMP to watch them. no tuner hardware needed.

I tried this last night, there was an option for Recorder Storage in the Media Center TV settings. I could not specify a folder I had created such as D:\Data\Recorded TV
I could only select the root of C:\ or D:\ so I changed it to D:\ the system then created its own Recorded TV folder on the root of D:\ drive.
I did a few test recordings and they were saved to the D:\Recorded TV folder OK.
What is a Watch Folder then in terms of Recorded TV ?
I will look in to sharing out this newly created Recorded TV folder but i would like to view the recordings on the secondary VMC laptop in Media Center under Recorded TV if possible?
Thanks
I followed Mike's instructions here for sharing Recorded TV between two VMC PC's. Now on the secondary VMC laptop I can see the shows recorded on the main VMC PC. However when I try and play them it says:
Disk Error
A temporary problem occurred when windows media center attempted to play TV. Please restart windows media center or the computer and then try again.
If I try and browse to \\mce01\recorded tv using the run command on the laptop it says.
\\mce01\recorded tv is not accessible you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Access is denied.
I followed Mike's instructions exactly. Both PC's are Vista Ultimate. Has anyone else got this working?
Only thing I did differently was run gpupdate /force on the main VMC PC and didn't reboot after editing the local computer policy. Perhaps I need to try a reboot.
mabrown:Check your ntfs and share permissions, that sounds like a permissions issue.
Not sure I get this? Why do you have to add the Anonymous Logon to the NTFS and Share Permissions on the Recorded TV folder?
I just added the user account that's logged on to the laptop, to the Recorded TV folders NTFS and Share Permissons as read only on the main VMC PC and now I can play the recorded tv files on the laptop in VMC. (Note: I have the same user account names on both the laptop and the main PC with the same passwords) So why bother with adding the Anonymous Logon to the permissions in the first place?
Edit: Or is adding the Anonymous Logon to the permissions what makes the recordings show up in the secondary VMC? and the additional step is also adding the user to the permissons you want to access and play the recorded content. I'm just wondering about the Anonymous Logon and what it actually does?

Either I am crazy or something is different on my PC. Did this change under SP1?
wayner9: cw-kid:Settings->TV->Recorded TV->TV Storage->Storage LocationI want to change the location of Recorded TV but I do not seem to have these options? Under Settings>TV there is no Recorded TV. There is Recorder but it does not have a TV storage option. Either I am crazy or something is different on my PC. Did this change under SP1?

WScottCross:On my newly installed Vista Ultimate SP1 machine, it's under: Settings -> TV -> Recorder -> Recorder Storage.
