SmoothMole:I'd like to know this as well. The Bravo allegedly allows NTSC and clear QAM from a single coaxial input vs. the two required on the M780. Has anyone purchased the Bravo? Please comment if so. Thx.
I have yet to purchase an AverTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe X1 card but from my understanding of the product it is a non-concurrent hybrid card. This means that the analog and digital components of the card will not function simultaneously. The Vista Media Center setup of such a card may only allow the configuration of either analog NTSC or digital ATSC (QAM) at any given time and may therefore require a workaround to get both operational. Even after such a workaround concurrent operation may result in missed or corrupted recordings.
So technically, you would need two AverTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe X1 (H788) cards to do the work of one AverTV Combo PCIe X1 (M780) card (save for radio functionality).
Bruce Andrews:I have been lurking on the H780 thread for a couple of weeks. I tried the procedure for the Beta clear QAM tool for my recently purchased Bravo (H788) with no luck. However - with this new thread on the Bravo and the new H788 drivers it worked great (with media center). The only thing new was that the setup of media center has changed. Imagine my surprise when I found that the new drivers now fake media center into thinking it is now connected to an ATSC antenna. When I inadvertently selected the source as an ATSC antenna - media center started searching for signals on the (non) existent antenna. However - now it reported signals - and in the GREEN (before, since I had no antenna, the signals were always 0). From there it just took off and worked great (even though I am connected thru a cable and NO antenna exists).Anyone else have any luck? (different behavior?).
Two days ago I bought two AverTV Bravo cards and installed them in my PC. The drivers that came on the CD gave me no signal error.
I downloaded the latest from the ftp site, and now I have signal. However, there is a little problem - the two cards don't work together, at least not all the time. If I start recording with both cards, one of the recording is really choppy, as if signal was lost every 2-3 seconds. This happens 2-3 times out of 10. If I reboot the computer, they both work OK, and I do have very strong signal. I have Vista x64. My previous tuners were ATI 650, and they gave me all sorts of problems with Vista sleep.
Also, I don't use QAM, just ATSC.
So are you saying that you are using the beta QAM drivers off the aver ftp for your Bravo Hybrid 788 card and using it in ATSC mode within VMC

Yes.
Well if you only wanted ATSC and not QAM you could have chosen from many of the OTA digital tuners out there but I suspect that the Bravo is still a good choice.
I’m guessing that the beta drivers are more geared toward QAM operations though. After troubleshooting you might want to shoot off an e-mail to AverMedia for support.
BTW, was there any reason why you prefer ATSC OTA over QAM?

I am contemplating the combo, because the analog tuner is worldwide... so that if I ever go back to Europe, I don't have to buy new tuners.
I prefer ATSC OTA because I find that digital cable in my area is highly compressed. And I am highly confused by the channel numbering of the cable, I can't decipher which cable channel maps to what OTA channel.

I can't find any other non-beta drivers to download, the drivers on the CD do not work with my system.
