Ok these errors just started poping up on boot up, when I log into my desktop.
"Digital Cable Device Registration Application Stopped working and was closed. A p[roblem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."
Also: " Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service stopped working and was closed.... yada yada yada. (same as above)
Also: when I load Media Center now and try to play recorded tv, or live tv it tells me important files are missing and to restart the computer.
A little history: I just installed a new CPU. Upgraded from x6700 to Q6700 this evening. Everything was working fine before the upgrade. Other than these errors and Media Center not functioning ALL else functions fine. The upgrade seems to be working just fine. Vista sees the new CPU and 4 cores show up in task manager. CPUZ reports everthing fine with the CPU. CORETEMP is reading 31C to 33C idle, and almost 50C with a load. CRYSIS runs fine (looks awesome). Everything else runs fine.
I reinstalled VISTA a few weeks ago and have spent the past few weeks tweaking and reinstalling essentials. I had everthing running perfectly just before the upgrade.
Here is the text from event viewer for something that might pertain:

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. I could just reinstall VISTA again... but I would rather not if another solution can be found.
Thanks in advance!!
AFrost20:Do you have a cable card system? Did you make sure and get the latest BIOS for your motherboard?
mabrown:It's always a good idea to do a reinstall anytime you make a big hardware change like that anyway, no telling what issues you'll run into down the road..
Ok, unfortunately you were right... it seems like a re-install fixed everthing. I now after a few hours of reinstalling the OS and configuering all my settings and reinstalling applications, I now have a fuly functional Vista Media Center with an upgraded quad core processor!
Thanks for your help!
Vista premium 32bit
Hi, same prob here for last few weeks...just fixed it so am here to share it with all
start> computer> C or whatever you call your main hard drive
now you are in the C folder go to organize (top left) on the drop down choose : folder and search options in the box that opens select the view tab at the top.
show hidden files and folders and untick the hide protected operating system files. apply and ok
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
from your C folder now open program data then microsoft then windows then DRM and finally open the cache folder. I deleted all that was contained in that folder and all media player functions work again.
After you have done this try running media player .. if all ok put your folder options back as you found them and Enjoy
The problem is caused because the new CPU does not match the info stored in there.

OMG!!! Thanks for the answer. It makes sense. I only wish I had known before I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows.
Thanks for solving the mystery.
Just wanted to say thanks for the "how too"
I had just upgraded my AMD processor and had the problem as listed. I thought I was going to have to reinstall.
So thanks very much for the help.
