Large Music Library woes?

I didn't want to necro an old thread as most of the posts on this topic that I could find are over a year old...

I'm having trouble with VMC not only seeing my entire music library, but being responsive as well when navigating what it did find..

I have roughly 100gb of hand ripped mp3's that are meticulously organized by artist/album and complete id3v3 tags.  I pointed VMC to the folder in the hope that it would add the complete library over the course of a few hours.  Well, I've given it a few days now and no more additions seem to be going through and it's only added about 10% of my total library.  To boot, it's rather sluggish when trying to navigate even that small percentage...

Is there some tweak I may be missing to fix my woes, or perhaps better yet, is there a 3rd party tool similar to myMovies that stores all song information in a database for faster retreival, etc..

Thanks for any help in advance!

If you start media player, klick on the Library dropdown button and select "Add to library".

Here you can tell wmp/mce where too monitor and look for music, when you click OK here it will scan and import all music much faster.

I'm a little confused, that's exactly how I added the music to begin with, and it doesn't wor, skipping the vast majority of my mp3s.

I'm a working DJ with 28,000 songs.  I  just plugged my backup drive into my VMC computer, opened up WMP and configured the Library to monitor the root of the drive. A couple hours later VMC says I have 28K songs in the Music, song view.  Can't say that the interface is great for that many songs and variety, but it did work.

I got it sorted out..  I was misreading what you guys were saying..

I tried to add my library by telling Media Centers which folders to monitor instead of Media PLAYER.  Doing it in Media Center caused it to stop finding files at about 1000 of 33,000 files.

Adding the watch folder through Media Player seems to be working fine.

    Thanks guys.
