    Hi guys,

I recently reinstalled Vista over an existing installation and had to reinstall all of my programs and drivers.  I did the registry hack to get Vista Media Center to display all of my ripped DVDs in the DVD Library.  The thing is, while the movies do play, there is no sound.  Outside of the DVD Library, sound works just fine.

I have the k-lite codec pack standard installed, as well as Nero.  My sound drivers are for Sound Blaster Audigy SE and should be up to date (I got them from Creative's website).

Is there something I am overlooking?  I should mention that the DVD Library worked beautifully on my previous Vista install.

    Thanks very much, in advance!
    Jon

do regular dvd movies play fine in MCE?

    What's your sound setup?

You don't want me to rant about how bad K-Lite & any other Codec packs are....so just understand, they're bad, and if your answers to the above don't help much, the first thing most people will tell you is to uninstall that garbage :-)

Well, I reinstalled my soundcard drivers and now the audio works in the DVD Library!  I have no idea why the drivers didn't work the first time.

@shadymg:  That's interesting about K-Lite.  Can you recommend a better solution for watching mkv files?  Thanks for your reply.

    Best Regards,
    Jon

    glad to hear it's fixed!

I'm not familiar with .MKV...but there has to be a standalone codec to avoid having to use the "packs"

I use MKV files time to time...

Not sure if it's the newest version but, what you need to play these files back is Matroska Splitter, with out the junk of the codec packs. Also a little reg hack to make the files show up in the video library.
