justinjas:http://digg.com/television/Broadcast_Flag_on_American_Gladiators_Over_the_air_NBC http://download.justinjas.com/broadcastflag.jpg I'm getting this error on American Gladiators and now Medium as well (I don't even like that show but still). Never seen it before and wanted to make sure it's correct, that NBC is marking the show with the broadcast flag. If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.
Same here. Got it on my homerun and on my cablecard tuner...
Went back about 30 minutes after it started and was able to record the rest... strange.
Same problem here with American Gladiators.
Medium recorded fine.
Analog Comcast cable.

This is not the broadcast flag. There are no tuners out there right now that pay attention to it. Most likely NBC embedded SCTE21 or CGMS signals in the stream. As such, Media Center has no choice but to obey the command.
In other words, I would blame to the broadcaster. :-(
???This is the Broadcast Flag. The Broadcast Flag applies to digital (OTA HD) signals; CGMS-A applies to analog signals. You're right in that no tuners pay attention to it. That job lies with the software that runs that tuner, be it Media Center or a hardware DVR.
Blame the broadcaster, yes. But, complain to the FCC. In case anyone needs a reminder, what NBC and/or your local affiliate did is not legal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_flag#Current_statusFor those that want to read the legalese...http://pacer.cadc.uscourts.gov/docs/common/opinions/200505/04-1037b.pdfThe FCC does not like it when broadcasters violate the rules.
