I'm streaming to a 360 via Vista Home Premium. After installing SP1, the media libary on my extender is not maintain, it needs to be refreshed everytime I turn my 360 on. The library seems fine when running VMC on my computer. Is this a known/common issue and are any fixes available? The database file in the Mcx1 user folder is 90 MB so I assume that represents my full library of ~6000 songs.

  I seem to be having the same problem...I have music library stating that I need to click ok to continue updating while I view it on the 360.

I have the same issue. After applying SP1, when I fire up the Extender and go to music, my library is empty. If I exit out of Music and wait a couple of seconds and then click on Music again, my library is partially or fully complete. Sometimes I have to exit and go back in a few times before the library is rebuilt.

After using VMC and my 360 for a few weeks after the SP1 update, the library seems to be maintained but there is a lag between turning it on and being able to navigate menus. It's

reminiscent of when I linked my 360 to my network via wireless. After hooking it up directly, I was able to navigate menus as soon as they became available and navigation was quick. Now with SP1 I'm back to wireless speed for menu navigation, although I'm hardwired.

Would you please try to leave the "adding media" dialog open for a LONG time (say overnight)?  Refreshing/re-building the media libraries can take quite a bit of time, especially for large media collections and if this process doesn't complete the first time, it will try again the next time. 

After you've done this, please let me know if you continue to see the problem.

Hello Karri.  I have had the same problem, but I assumed that it was the size of my library.  I just reorganized my hard drives and moved my music folder.  Tonight I will try rebuilding my music collection from scratch but I will leave the "adding media" dialog open overnight.  I will report back tomorrow what I find.

Maybe this is part of the problem - there is no "adding media" dialogue when I open the picture or music libraries.  Do you mean I should uninstall/reinstall the 360 extender and then re-add the music folder?  Because that's the only time I can think where you get such a dialogue.  If you do mean that, I already waited until the process had finished (i.e. I didn't press OK to continue using Media Center) so there's not much point doing it again.

So you aren't seeing any of your music or photos in Extender and you aren't prompted?  If this is the case, would you please check your Library settings to confirm you are watching the correct folders on your PC?

No, I'm seeing my music and photos but the problem is I have to wait for them to populate each time I go into them.  I have reinstalled the 360 extender and recreated the libraries, making sure I wait until the progress bar has reached 100% and all items are added but then the next time the 360 is powered off and back on, I have to wait for re-population when I go into each library.

I think you may have mis-interpreted the original poster's (and my) problem.  The issue is not that the library is cleared each time you reboot the extender.  The problem is that once set up, you have to wait for each library to load up.  I'll explain in detail, these steps assume I have uninstalled the 360 from the Vista PC and have just completed the Add Extender Wizard, the 360 has just loaded up the extender interface for the first time:

1. Go into music library -> receive prompt advising there are no music files in the library and asking if I want to add folders now.  I say yes, I want to add folders.
2. I tick my music albums folder and complete the wizard.  I get a progress bar in the bottom right corner.
3. I make a cup of tea and wait for 100%
4. Library looks good, all titles there, if I press the green button and then go back into music library, everything is still immediately visible.  I turn the xbox 360 off. This is when the problem starts.
5. I turn the 360 back on and when the MCX interface is loaded, I select music library.  Hmm, there's nothing there - no, wait, 75 albums just appeared, no wait, now its 120, no, 150, 220, 368..... you get the idea. 

Its like the 360 still knows exactly what folders it needs to display but for some reason, and only since SP1 was installed, it takes a minute or so for all the folders to appear. The photos album exibits the exact same behaviour.  Pre-SP1, you would get a slight delay of a few seconds when going into the music library but when it came up, all the albums would immediately be there, now it takes like a minute for them to appear - that's the problem.  Does that make sense?

 

Thanks for the great detail.  Would you mind repeating these steps but leaving your XBOX on overnight (after step 3), then trying step 4 again?

You may well know something I don't here but should there really still be anything happening related to the library after the progress bar has reached 100% - I don't see why there would be.  Even if this works though, the fact remains that this never happened pre-SP1 and I noted this occured on both a Vista install that was patched to SP1 and a fresh SP1-slipstreamed install as well - something is definitely not right.

edit: I keep forgetting to do this before  go to bed, I will try and remember tonight.

OK, I finally remembered to do this last night and when I got home from work today, the 360 had turned off due to the auto-off on idle setting being enabled.  This means at least 6 hours of running though after library setup.  Now when I go into my music library, it's instantly viewable, cover art even appears on a lot of albums quicker than it used to.

I still very dubious about whether simply leaving the thing on for ages after the library setup has completed actually had anything to do with it but at least it's working now.
