Ahh... I saw this was coming, but people just said I was being negative. After seeing MS destroy media center faithful hopes anf wishes for a few years now, I have no reason to be optomistic.

Being OEM only isn't all that bad.  MCE 2005 was OEM only but I know I've never purchased an OEM system other than MacBooks.  There will be work arounds.  What is dissappointing to me is the lack of communication by Microsoft.  Five pages of comments and not a single post from Microsoft?  Why exactly was tgb purchased?

MCE 2005 was not OEM only... any one could buy the disk (called, confusingly, an OEM disk) and install it AND get all the upgrades... not now.

Having NOTHING official on TGB yet having KB articles about it is very poor.

So if people are not recieving this via windows update, how are they getting it?

From what i can tell it is with a new pc.
If MS want to correct me on that then go ahead.
I think a few people are waiting to hear from thier OEM guys and trying to find out if they can obtain a copy of it.

I have a toshiba laptop with vista! I will contact them now, I'll post back with my findings!

Just called Toshiba, the guy had no idea what I was talking about.... he said "Call Microsoft" :(

Wow.  This was an eye-opening thread... and not in a good way.  There is obviously a lot of frustration about this, but I don't agree with making personal attacks and (in my opinion) very hateful and harsh statements without any real information to back it up.  I was also a little surprised at being personally called out for not posting a response (along with Microsoft in general) to a post that wasn't even one day old.  Thanks guys, really... I feel the love.

That said, I'll refer back to my earlier post on this topic, and say that we will post more information before the official announcements at CEDIA.  You can expect this to include explanations to several of the issues brought up in this thread.  In the meantime, I'll see how much (if any) information I can comment on, and we'll share more details when possible.  However, I encourage future posts to be somewhat respectful, as I will not be responding to any questions within the flaming or overly anti-Microsoft posts.  We all care about the success of Media Center otherwise we wouldn't be here... so please keep that in mind when posting.

Since this is a released product/update now, when will OEMs be able to start distributing it?

I opened a support case with Velocity Micro asking them when I would be able to obtain it from them but I'm expecting them to come back and ask me what I'm talking about.
