    hi all -

tvitty is a new bittorrent add-in for vista media center. we use this platform to distribute legal content, and the list of videos can be extened via user-configurable feeds with information from thetvdb and imdb.

tvitty was originally released as closed alpha, but lately we noticed a few posts on several forums that indicated it has spread beyond that original scope. so while still not formally announced, tvitty alpha can now be downloaded from our site. we'll listen on forums.tvitty.com, info at tvitty.com, or this thread for rants, requests, bugz etc...

    main features:
    - Works from the couch with a standard remote
    - Search and Browse titles published through tvitty and on the internet
    - Configure your own RSS, XSL, Python and Yahoo! pipe feeds
    - One-click DLs using the built-in bittorrent client (based on libtorrent):
        * Trackerless torrents (using the Mainline kademlia DHT protocol) with
          some DHT extensions
        * NAT-PMP and UPnP support (automatic port mapping on routers that
          supports it)
        * Multitracker extension support (as specified by John Hoffman)
        * Serves multiple torrents on a single port and in a single thread
        * Fast-Resume support, a way to get rid of the costly piece check at the
          start of a resumed torrent.
        * IPv6
        * more...
    - Auto-DL - Automatically search, filter, and dl new releases
    - Recommendations - offers titles based on your viewing profile

NOTE 1: tvitty installs the Hiro codec which supports specific content that we distribute with some ads. For public domain content the Hiro codec isn't used, so if you're currently not in one of the regions where ad-supported content is available, you can go ahead and uninstall the Hiro codec at any time.

EDIT: as of v0.9.4, tvitty supports x64.

Any chance of posting some screenshots highlighting the interface and its use? I didn't see any of your web site or forums, except for the small ones as part of your logo/page header.
  •
Is this the full bittorrent app, or is it merely an interface for bittorrent (or another BT app like uTorrent)?
  •
sorry for lack of info... we updated the post with main features and screenshots. more info on our site.

SirMeili - tvitty comes with its own libtorrent client, with build-in monitor/pause/stop/start etc...

    thanks,

    birsch,

One thing you might want to note is this does use the Hiro codec. Don't get me wrong, it is clearly stated in the faq on your site, I just thought the community might want to know before installing.

  •
What content does this currently have?

    Is it mostly trailers?
  •
good point MSBob, thanks. i updated the post with some quick info on the hiro codec. check our faq for more info.

in most regions we provide default pre-configured RSS feeds for public domain content from bittorrent.com and legittorrents.info. you may go ahead and add additional RSS feeds or beyond that with python and XSL.

we're currently building our content database region by region, and always on the lookout for more titles to distribute. drop us a line if you know of content owners that would like to distribute over tvitty.

    thanks,
    -birsch

That's a really nice design, love the blue and orange!

Just a notice to everyone. I installed this, and though i didn't get it to work (I had planned on posting to the tvitty forums to resolve it), I noticed a huge slow down while the Hiro Codec app was running (this was on my laptop with a CD 2.0 (not C2D) and 2gb of ram). Due to this limitation I may not be continuing to persue this application. I will run more tests and if I find that it was something else, but immediately after closing the tray app, my system performance jumped quite a bit.

SirMeili - first time we hear of this so we'll contact Hiro-Media (makers of the Hiro codec) to see if they can help. i suggest you uninstall the hiro codec if you think it's slowing your machine down. tvitty will continue to run without it and play public domain videos.

if you can spare the time, please let us know what went wrong post install.

    thanks!

    Birsch,

BAsically when starting the app in VMC, it would say it couldn't contact the downloader add-in. I wasn't aware if this was a service that was running or something that was supposed to start with VMC.
  •
thanks. due to the way VMC works with background add-ins, the dl add-in is loaded roughly 10 seconds after VMC starts. this may take longer on slower machines, in which case tvitty front-end may fail to contact it. that being said, a second try should work.

if trying again doesn't resolve this issue, then the dl add-in may have failed to start for another reason. if you don't mind, please email us the tvitty.log file from C:\Users\All Users\tvitty (same as C:\ProgramData\tvitty if you see it) to info@tvitty.com and we'll take a look. screening out these alpha bugs is very important for us, so thanks a lot for your feedback so far.

    thanks,
    -birsch

    birsch,

It doesn't matter how long I have VMC open, I still get the same error. i will send you the file you requested though :)

Don't forget to mention that the program will load on x64 vista but the Bittorrent Downloader doesn't work yet for x64 users. So I guess the program isn't really usable yet for x64 bit users. Unless this has been fixed very recently?
