hmm I'm starting to have doubts my machine is even correctly going into sleep mode, when your Hybrid sleeps do the lights on the front of the unit switch off? On mine they don't, there seems to be a fair amount of activity even after the video signal goes.

I've got a stubborn hspda card in my laptop that sometimes doesnt respond after hibernate. To get around this I used a freeware app called hibernate trigger and a MS command line tool called devcon. I wrote a .cmd file that calls devcon and gets it to restart USB devices with a certain PID and then hibernate trigger to call this .cmd file when the machine resumes from hibernate. After a few seconds the device is back up. So far it has worked without fail.

You should try it for your stubborn device. If you need any help let me know.

i am having no issues with this going into sleep mode and resuming using a blue tooth remote (logitech dinovo mini) or and ir universal remote(logitech harmony one).  however i was having this issue before the upgrades i described

If I switch off my TV (toshiba regza) while the PC is on, I still get a video signal when I switch the TV on again - is this what you mean?

One time the video signal returned but was incorrectly reset to 4:3, but it's never happened since.

The problem is intermittent.  BTW, my original symptom when I would loose the video signal, was after a reboot the driver would reconfigure to 4:3.  The updated video driver fixed that particualar issue.

However, I have since reconfigured my system and have a A/V receiver between the HDMI Output to the TV and the HDMI input from the Dell.  I am hopeful that this will address the issue, as the AV Receiver will alway provide a HDMI signal to the Dell regardless of the status of the HDTV...

Thanks for the feedback it was helpful....BTW how do you like the Dell?  Are you using it for TV reception as well?  If so how is that working out?

To be honest, with the exception of sleep mode I would say so far its been just perfect, its very quiet - its handled everything I've thrown at it - and it looks great . I just got round to playing a DVD (disc) on it and the drive made no noise whatsoever, which was just the icing on the cake because I had heard it was noisy as it spun. It was also incredibly easy to set it up and get everything running, I am recording TV through a fairly cheap £30 freeview USB dongle (I'm in the UK) the quality is average-good as expected but in terms of performance its been flawless. So really my only issue is sleep mode, I'm curious as to why all the lights on the unit stay lit up once its "powered down" there seems to be HD access too, thats not really what I want - I want the machine to power down and hibernate correctly - how does it work for you?

Sleep mode is working fine for me, when I put it into sleep mode, the power indicator displays a slow blink.  I have inlcuded an email interaction with dell that resolved my sleep issue. Since implementing this it goes into sleep mode fine.  Perhaps this will fix the issue for you as well.

"...Tim, as  I have researched on the issue and found that there is issue with the inbuilt video card ( Intel) and BIOS power settings.

hence we will try to check if the issue you are facing is due to the power option on the system

Please enter the system setup mode using F2 on system start and select the Power option and set the ACPI suspend type to S1(POS)..."

I am starting to wonder if I am having hardware problems, as I am also having issues with the digital output into my AV Receiver.  I am in the process of reloading the OS to make sure nothing got corrupted.  I can't beleive this is a system wide issue.  However, when it works it works great...Glad to hear that you are having no issues.  I wish I could say the same. Unfortunately, Dell support is very suspect...I do have a few configuration questions for you. If you don't mind could you kindly reply.

What monitor are you using and which interface (DVI/HDMI etc)

What sound deveice are you using for playback  (TV Set, AV Receiver etc)

What interface are you using for your sound playback (HDMI, Digital Out, Analog Audio)

    Thanks,

    Tim

Ok, I'll give S1 mode a try, but it sounds odd, I thought S3 was vastly superior to S1 and that vista only supported S3?

this is what you need to fix the problem about signal loss when you turn off tv

I tried sleep mode after I had set the bios to use S1 and I still have the same problem - the video signal goes but the machine seems to actually stay powered on still.
  •
Ok, by setting the bios to S1 and selecting "allow the computer to sleep" under the multimedia "when sharing media" option in the advanced power setup I can now get the machine to go into sleep mode - however it wakes itself up about 15 seconds later for no reason - any idea?
  •
...and another update - I seem to have fixed the mysterious wake up issue by disallowing the LAN ethernet adapter to wake up the computer when it detects activity.

So that's everything, I've left the machine in sleep mode now - its due to record something in 20 minutes... will it wake itself up and do it? I have my doubts but we'll see :)
  •
I sounds like something is waking up the computer.  You may need to go into Device Manager and check your LAN and HID interfaces to see if the power management options may be causing this...

Davieboy,   Thanks.  Did you have a simular issue?  Do you know the cost of this device?

I have mine hooked up to the DVI port on my TV right now because I don't have a free HDMI port. I noticed that the available video resolutions only go up to 1280 x 1024. (I have it at 1280 x 768 right now because my TV's native resolution is 1366 x 768, so I get a bit of letterboxing along the sides that I'm less than fond of.)

Do you get different resolution options if you hook it up to HDMI? Or am I stuck with standard monitor resolutions? Do I need to look into something like DTD Calculator to fix this? Anyone actually running at full 1080p with it?

    Any help is appreciated.
