    Killerbones:
Yeah thats fine and dandy that it can control all that stuff but can I as the end user configure the button arrangement, because if the screen shot is how the app looks I will fat finger almost every command that I would want to do the screen is way to busy. I thinks thats what the other post was trying to imply.

The buttons are 36x36 pixels.  If you can type on the iphone keyboard which i believe each key is only 16x16 pixels i don't think you would have much trouble with 36x36.   I wanted to include all 49 buttons from an official MCE Remote and not have to page to page.  Plus in the next version if you turn the iPhone sideways it will give you a smaller subset of HUGE 64x64 Play, Pause, Stop buttons etc.  How does that sound?

Or perhaps you could have included our iViewer protocol (documentation available in the Developers Manual at www.commandfusion.com/downloads) within your PC application and been able to create fully custom GUI's with the exact same control functionality you currently have....just a thought :)

    That command fusion looks awesome!

    Melloware:
Ummm yeah but maybe you missed the point.  My application not only lets you control with your iPhone but with  over 40 different infrared remotes and 2 Bluetooth remotes like the Sony PS3 Remote.  Does your app do that?   Does your application also allow IR Blasting with a USB-UIRT so you could say turn your stereo or TV off with your iPhone or any other remote?  So if you are sitting on your sofa and wanted from your iPhone or iPod Touch to turn on your TV, DVD Player and stereo could your app do that?   Can your app control anything besides Vista MCE?  MediaMonkey? Winamp? VLC?    If your application does all those things for Free i would be impressed...but my guess is it doesn't.     So before you spout off something isn't worth 24$ you might want to do some research....just my opinion and "no offense". :)

I didn't mean to compare my app. with intelliremote...

I'm sorry, I must have misread the page; I was under the impression that you were just charging $24.99 for just the iPhone portion.  If that's included with the rest of the intelliremote app, then I absolutely take it back.  In fact if you look back through my previous posts, I have recommended intelliremote on more than one occasion.  I whole heartedly agree that intelliremote is a great application for what it does, I was only speaking to the iPhone screenshots.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    Just my $0.02.

Ryan no problem!  Apology accepted.   Yes the iPhone application is 100% FREE!   It is just a client for my existing Intelliremote customers but I am bringing in new customers with this app because it lets them put their PC in the closet out of IR line of sight.

And I am constantly working to make the screens for the iphone better but I was in a rush to market.  Apple is BRUTAL with their review policy and it took 3 weeks from the time i uploaded it before Apple approved it.  Any updates go through the same review process so I just wanted to get version 1 out there!

    I knew you wouldn't flame me. :)

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it might be interesting to somebody:

Have a look at the Vista third party application sub-forum. I developed an advanced (two way communication) iPhone based remote for Vista Media Center in my free time because I wanted such an app personally. It's called vmcMote.
I also brought it to the Apple App Store because I thought there may be other media center enthusiasts that will like it. It is available now.

The thread about it here on the green button is http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/335822.aspx.
Or head directly to the vmcMote project hompage: vmcMote.blogspot.com

    Greetings, Thomas

    CommandFusion:
    I found this project: http://www.codeplex.com/VmcController

And after speaking with the developer (who no longer has time to devote to the project) I believe it can be quite easily modified to suit the needs of our iPhone app.

Basically at the moment the VmcController addin uses 2 ports, one for control the other for feedback. Our iPhone app can only use one port for two-way control and feedback. So the VmcController project needs to be modified to pipe all feedback through to the command port.

Also the protocol VmcController uses is quite easily modified (as far as I can tell by having a browse through the source) so I think any decent C# developers would be able to easily get this happening.

Are there any C# developers out there interested in this at all? Should I post in another area of the forum to get some attention?

    Thanks,

I'm a developer that's been working on extending this project.

Here's an app I threw together to demo the use of the VMC TCP/IP controller from an iPhone (I actually use it on an iPod Touch). This is a web app, but after you customize it with your VMC machine's IP address you can generate a data URL - the entire web app is contained in the URL. Add it to your homescreen and you have a fullscreen on device saved app. It's still not native, but awfully close in appearance / performance...

Note that this app requires the HTTP Server version (Beta 2) of Vista Media Center TCP/IP Controller.

    Edit:
    Oops, here's the URL: http://www.onhiatus.com/has/remote.html
And the discussion at Codeplex: http://vmccontroller.codeplex.com/Thread/View.aspx?ThreadId=61351

Take a look at the inControl application in case you are want an iPhone/iPod Touch application for controlling Vista Media Center, your TV, receiver, and any other device connected to your computer using RS232. You can also browse the Media Center program guide within the iPhone/iTouch application.

it looks alright from the screen shots, but from past experiences, I pretty much won't touch any apps that don't have a free trial period

  •

remote PC is another one to check out.

    just stumbled onto it

it works just fine, but is basically a VNC client, rather than just a remote
