Got it installed last night but made one mistake. I had VMC do its auto-detect for the signal and it it only came back with the QAM stations (4 of them in Cleveland Heights, OH, BTW), but not the rest of the analog digital.  After reading the posts in this thread, I decided to go tosleep for the night while the scan completed, and finish in the morning, so my time was limited befoe I had to leave for work.  I tried the "Add Channels" option, but no luck there.  I had to go back in and use the Manual Setup option to detect both the Clear QAM and analog digital channels.  I had to go to work before I could see the results of the scan but I feel confident about this new course of action.

Provided everything worked out, my next step will be to adjust the guide for the QAM stations.

What would be helpful to me is if someone with experience mapping QAM stastions into their guide provided the steps they took and perhaps some screen shots.

Also, if any of you folks out there are looking for the TV Pack and associated files, PM me and I will let you know how I was able to get them.

Works well on HVR-1800.  I'm missing a few channels I had over OTA, but I'll take it. I'll be scanning with WinTV to see if MediaCenter missed something and then I'll try to add manually.

To anyone having a problem scanning for QAM channels. Try using the ATSC guide data instead of "Digital Cable" It worked for me and at least one other poster here.

I got three options for guides:

    1. Time Warner Cleveland Suburbs (Digital)
    2. Time Warner Cleveland Suburbs (Updated)
    3. Time Warner Cleveland Suburbs (Updated and Digital)

I picked #1.  What would you have recommended?

    sorry
Apparently we don't get the same options. I am in the boston area with comcast.
I would have chosen #1 also

When it came picking guide for ClearQam
    I had

    1. Digital cable for my town
    2. Fios from a near by town
    3. ATSC (boston)
I chose ATSC because the local digital provided no channels after a complete scan

I got my 1600 to work finally.

    Here's what I did:

I have the TV pack installed already so I didn't do anything with that.

I did a complete uninstall of all drivers and hauppauge software. Go into the CD 4.2 extracted folder and run the hcwclear.exe file.

    Reboot.

Ignore the detected hardware popup when windows finishes rebooting.

Go back into the CD 4.2 directory and run the hcwdriverinstall.exe. This should install the appropriate drivers for whatever card you're using.

Copy and paste the information from earlier in this thread into a blank txt file and save it.

Change the extension to .reg. and import into your registry.

Reboot here or not, I did.

Go into media center and run the TV signal setup.

Mine detected 1 analog tuner and 1 qam digital tuner. I chose the local comcast analog and digital lineups respectively and they mapped automatically to the detected channels. I was able to get the local NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS, CW and WETA channels. (Washington DC area)

    Good luck.

    "HVR-2250 (not yet supported)"

    For real? *sigh*

I don't have a 2250; but, if the "logic" of the reg-keys fit across brands of cards (which is seems to with avermedia & hauppauge); then, all you should have to do is create the reg key for the 2250 (assuming you have the latest 2250 drivers installed).

So, take the reg key & change the "...Services\HCWxxxx\Parameters..." from one of the "working" cards lines, and match the HCWxxxx to whatever the HVR-2250 uses.  I'd bet that works but since the card is SO new, Hauppauge doesn't want to stick its' neck out to suggest it.

Quick look at the 2250's driver INF -
Try one of these options for the reg key:

    ; HVR-2250
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw89\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcwPrx89\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

After the reboot, my guess is you'll get QAM

    ditto here--
though I would add that while neither choice found any channels that were mapped to the guide, it did 'find' my digital channels (just didn't tell me).  I then had to 'edit' the guide numbers & listings to re-map all the discovered xx.xx numbers to the correct guide data.

Same here but most of those digital channels were home shopping crap, local town stuff or dital simulcast of the local analogs none of which I needed but they are there if I get bored. I wonder if my guide popuated correctly is because I had the ATSC tuner working previosly with that data and the channel numbering is the same.

I've got two Hauppauge tuners (a 500 and a 2250) which show up like this:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw18bda\Parameters
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw85bda\Parameters
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw89\Parameters

based on the logic of the note from Hauppauge, I bet the hcw89 entry is the software or drivers, and not the hardware. Right? The first two are my 500 and 2250 cards, in that order, I'm guessing. Tried adding the dword to the hcw85dba entry, but it didn't affect things. Note: I've got the QAM_as_ATSC keys in there too...wonder if they're conflicting? Or maybe the 2250 simply doesn't support this in the same way.

That 'should' be the on you'd want to use.  I could be wrong but the QAM_as_ATSC was if you had the beta plugin installed?  I can't confirm this; but, I'd guess you don't want to have the beta qam plugin installed when attempting this.

Yea, it does look as though the "QAM_as_ATSC" was from the beta plugin. When i uninstalled the card (including deleting the corresponding registry keys) and cleanly reinstalled it, there were only weirdly numbered keys in the folder.

It seems to work alot better if the card(s) are cleanly installed instead of working on top of what you already have.

Also, i'm probably repeating info here but, when you do the qam channel scan, don't just look at how many channels it successfully scanned, but also look at the channel editor in the guide setting. I had 0 (zero) successful channels from the scan, but 400 channels were added to my guide (just unchecked). Then you have to check each channel that isn't locked (I came up with about 40 channels, mostly repeats of the analog channels i already have). Good Luck

Weird. I guess my registry reflected the wrong tuner card? I play with this box FAR too much, in other words. :-) Ran HWclear and got rid of all that gunk. Starting from scratch on the tuner install thing.

Is this what I have to do?  I know it has been posted before, but I'm trying to be extra careful :)
    1. Uninstall Beta QAM plug-in
    2. Restart
    3. Uninstall HVR1600 card, delete registry key folder
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw18bda
    4. Restart
    5. Install the drivers via the 4.2 installer
    6. Install the new registry key patch
    7. Restart
    8. Setup via VMC

Do I have to install the Vista MCE TV Pack?  If yes, when?

Thanks for all your help and insight

Yes that would do it and yes you need the TV pack and updates and install it first

Worked like a charm.  I now have all my locals in Clear QAM in MCE

The local PBS and CW are coming in pixellated.  GBPVR brings them in fine.  Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
