Just got my VisionTek 650 HD PCi-E Tuner card yesterday.  Ran a fresh wire to the computer and installed the card.  Vista detected it no problem.  Installed the TV pack according to the directions, applied all necessary updates.  When I run the VMC setup it finds the Digital Cable QAM Tuner, downloads guide and proceeds to find channels.  Once it gets to 78% it just hangs.  I thought I was being in patient so I started it last nite and went to bed.  When I got up this am it was still sitting at 78%.   I set up the ATI Catalyst media center and it finds the channels fine so I know the card and cable are working.

Any Advice?  Reapply TV Pack?  Really don't want to reload just to get TV working on it.

    Thanks...

Dishdude, I just got the same card and installed it last night. Did you get this to work yet? I'd like to install the TV pack so I can get clear QAM channels, but I don't want to mess up my system permanently.

I'm assuming you are running Vista with SP1 installed, right?

I have an ATI branded 650 card and get a similar problem. The fix I did was to cancel the channel scan and add them all manually. You can get a channel list from silicondust's website.

I actually did something similar.  They are all there you just have to add them manually.  No guide data but they work.  Now trying to get the Xbox 360 Extender up and running.  Anyone do this and actually get Live TV working?  Got these 2 errors..

The description for Event ID 54 from source QWAVEdrv cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

How do you know what the frequency is? Lets say I want to add 26.1

MCE asks what frequency it uses after you add the channel. Does anyone know how to figure that out?
    Thanks

Yes, I installed TV Pack 08 over a long-time existing install.  No issues whatsoever.

    You should be fine too.

stevebo77, quick question.  I have been putting off the install of TV Pack 08 becuase I read that it blew away the recording schedule.  Did it do that to you, or all your recordings from before still record.

I have been away from the site for a while and this thread is just too long to read it all.  Sorry if it has already been asked.

I can't be 100% sure on this since I don't keep my recorded TV very long, and know that I didn't have any recorded TV on-disk still when I installed TVPack08.  My scheduled recordings of Jeopardy, however, were all still scheduled post-install.  Didn't lose those and find that MC tunes in everyday just fine.

dishdude, were you able to get this working to your satisfaction? I'd like to give it a try this weekend, if you think it was worthwhile. What is the process to add the channels manually?

What I ended up doing was splitting my cable into 2 and running it into both tuners.  When I ran a scan this time it said found no channels but my whole cable guide was in there and correctly mapped.  When I went into the settings and clicked edit channels I could see the QAM channels in there and they werent checked.  I went thru and checked each one then they showed up in the guide, no info but could tune them.  Now I'm trying to get it working on my Xbox 360.  We have a game room used primarily as that but it would be nice to watch TV in there on occasion. I'm pretty much there but am fighting Norton Endpoint Protection.  It seems to be locking the Live TV portion.  If I disable it works.  Can't figure out what to do to let ut thru..

My schedule did not stay, but I think I may have re-set my tuner. I don't remember for sure. I think I was to afraid to look at what it did to the schedule becaues it wasn't a "clean install".
It did work great on a non-clean install other than not knowing if my scheduled recordings stayed or not (because I didn't check.)

Ok, got to the point in MCE where it wanted to update the security settings update for the cable cards, but it fails.  Can't get it installed though VMC.  any ideas?

Also, my secheduled recordings are now gone :(.  Might go back :(.

    Edit:

Going back.  Found that I was not able to get any of the tuners to tune any channels.

Drats.  guess I have to wait till windows 7 to get all the nifty features of the tv pack.

I found that most of my channels weren't mapped properly.  I had to go edit most of them and map them to correct channels.  And I seem to be missing a couple of channels that I'd had in the basic package before... (would have expected them to be present in clear QAM...). I also didn't realize a 2 hour tv show in HD would take nearly 16GB of space...

Just make sure to clear your Event Viewer log and you will not need a clean install.

Open the Event Viewer, (Performance Information and Tools, Advanced Tools, View performance details in Event log)

Select the Applications and Service Logs folder.  Right click on Media Center and select clear logs.

I just found the coolest thing about the TV pack.  I have two computers with Windows Media Center.  One that I have been using for about a year now and a laptop I just picked up.  I installed the TV pack on the laptop just to try it out.  It went on without a problem.  The best part is it automatically found the recorded TV on the networked desktop at soon as I started up.

Clarification: It just occurred to me I had tried to get my laptop to access the recorded TV on my desktop before installing the TV pack.  I used some instructions I had found in a different Green Button forum.  It did not work then, but some of the registry changes I made may have something to do with why it works with the TV Pack.  Do not know one way or the other.
