UK (Sky) TV Pack Questions

    Hi all,

I have two full Vista x64 media centers and a work machine (also x64) which I use for testing VMC stuff before letting it loose on 'she who must be obeyed'. I made an acronis image on my work machine and installed the TV Pack straight over the existing installation - worked perfectly (so far). It's left me with a couple of questions though:

    1. I'm using a cheap usb tuner (HVR-900 I think) using composite from the stb on my work machine. Setup found everything fine and installed without incident. Unforunately, all the channels numbers are now extremely weird, to the point that the wife would freak out if I presented her with it. It has found multiple BBC1s for example althought this is not of itself a problem as it seems to handle them very inteligently. The real problem is the arbitrary numbering. In the UK, Sky news is 501, movies start from 300 etc. I'm not sure if there's anyway to retain the original sky numbering but if anyone can advise I would really appreciate it.

    2. My next test is going to be putting in a FloppyDTV DVB-S2 tuner card. I understand that the TVPack will now recognise this as a DVB-S2 card without the need for the old 'hack' of fooling VMC into believing it's a DVB-T card. HAs anyone tested this and is this in fact the case? If so, what are the best drivers for the card to install before setting up VMC? I have no interested in the supplied apps, it will only be used ewithin VMC. Would the channel numbering problem still be likely to exist?

I am actually massively impressed with the TV Pack and am strangely (perhaps foolishly) confident that the h.264 solution isn't far away (I understand the beta decoders expire soon but I feel sure some solution will be found). If this is the case, then for the first time since I've been fiddling with this stuff a serious VMC Sky HD solution will be available - no more failed recordings because a PIN is required at 3am!

By installing over the top, I found that all my weather plugins, mymovies, video browser and OML all still work. Not sure if this would be the case on a fresh install though.

    Thanks in anticipation

Just a bump and a plea to any UK users that might be able to shed some light on my channel number confusion.

I have the same issue with all the channel numbers.

I have Nova t 500 which is channel 1 to 80 and then the DVb S channels which is basically Sky.

I have ended up just asking the She who must be obeyed to search for all the things she wants to watch and record them.

The strange thing I have noticed while doing this is that some programs or series I dont get the option to record series.

You can merge them together - I've done exactly that.

The following example assumes you want to merge channel 103 into channel 3.  In my case this was merging ITV1 from DVB-S into ITV1 on DVB-T.

In the guide on channel 103 press "More Information" and then select "Edit Channel" (I think it is called that).  Then select "Edit Listings" from the options.  On the right-hand side of the screen that appears scroll down in the list to find channel 3 and select that.  You will then get asked if you want to merge or split - select "split" (the top option) and after a few seconds channel 103 will have been merged into 3 (channel 103 will no longer be listed).

    Hope this helps!

SyncToy used to duplicate certain folders and planning to use Acronis True Image for PC backups.

Ah awesome I will try that tonight.

Is there an XML file I can edit? going through the menus is somewhat tiresome

Also does anyone have all the merged channels that give extra info for example

BBC1 teletext is a channel is it best to merge that into the channel or just hide it?

Plus has anyone had any luck with the Red button on DVB-s ?

    Thanks for that asm495.

I have been testing with a USB tuner - are you saying that when I fit the DVB-S2 card (which is the only thing I will use eventually) it will report the channels as ITV 103, Sky News 501 etc, ie the Sky numbering system? If so, that's great and I don't have a problem :)

I've currently got a working Fiji system (Acer Aspire iDea 500 with twin DVB-T). My FireDTV S2 arrives tomorrow, so I'll let you know how I get on. I've heard that although Fiji should recognise DVB-S, the current drivers don't work fully. It still requires the DVB-T hack until new drivers are finished.

Thanks Fred - my card shipped today so you'll probably get there first - do let us know how it goes :)
