    Slangare:

I am using Tv Pack on the G35.

It works fine, but the modified beta dll is a little unstable..

Need to reboot once a day approx..

I am not any other codec (PDVD etc) so that might be the reason.

    Hi

Glad to hear its working ok - please confirm you are using it for GPU and don't have another graphic card installed on the board ?

Out of interest which processor are you using because G35 graphic chip does most decoding in software

In what way is it unstable ?

Do you have to reboot Windows or just Media Centre ?

Do you mean it maybe conflicting with other codecs or you don't have any other codecs ?

    Thanks

No other GPU than the G35. I use a E6600, but it is a little to small CPU sometimes 100%, that is why I am looking at G45 and DXVA.

I am using the TV Pack on a test HDD, and no other codecs/programs (except DivX) is installed.

I am not using it for BD playback, only h.264 DVB-T TV.

I don't know if I should put PDVD on, I guess that I will still use the modified dll as the h.264 codec. Otherwise we would have used PDVD's codec from the start?? Maybe I am wrong..

    Thanks for your quick reply

Can you have 2 analogue tuners as well ? ( to use for capture )

I would be happy with 4 tuners if they could all share the same epg - can DVB-S and DVB-T share the same epg ?

Can you use one card with multiple tuners on the same card both DVB-S and DVB-T like the Blackgold one which has 2 DVB-T , 2 DVB-S and 2 analogue or would they have to be on separate cards ?

If you enable the red button hack for DVB-S does it stop working for DVB-T ?

I have heard third party add ons are affected eg DRVMS toolbox because I use TunerfreeMCE and Vista Yougle alot

I would like to know if anybody has tested this with the G35 Intel chipset

    Thanks

As far as I'm aware you can have two tuners of each type (4 with Ultimate), but the problem with the BlackGold is that the DVB-T and and annalouge tuners are hybrid so you can only use one or the other not both, this does not affect the DVB-S side of things as thats a seperate tuner.

Yes DVB-S and DVB-T can share the same EPG.

I think you will find a lot of add on's are now broken, the TV Pack also uses a new recording format WTV, although things will change soon as they get updated.

Can anyone recommend suitable products for a combination of tuners ?

    I need 2 x DVB-T , 2 x DVB-S , 1 x Analogue for video capture preferably HD , and one DVB-S2 to use with DVB viewer for DVB -S2 channels

What about Hauppauge HVR4000 or Blackgold BGT3540  ?

If you enable the red button hack for DVB-S does it stop working for DVB-T ?

Can I install TVPack over the top of Vista Home Premium as I don't want to reinstall all over again ?

    Thanks

I'd get the BlackGold plus something like the Hauppauge 150MCE.  That would give you exactly what you need I think (possibly not DVB-S2 but not sure there are any channels on these yet).

Enabling MHEG on DVB-S does not break DVB-T.

In theory you can install TV Pack over your existing install and a number of people have done so, although the recommended path is to do a fresh install.

SyncToy used to duplicate certain folders and planning to use Acronis True Image for PC backups.

I've got the Q6600 processor and using it with G35 for blu-ray decoding with Arcsoft TMT and it performs very well @ less than 50% so I hope it will be good for h264 HD tv aswell

In what way is it unstable ?

Do you have to reboot Windows or just Media Centre ?

    Thanks

    Couple of question answering's.

PDVD has nothing to do with the TV playback codec, nor does any other codec (well you can get audio through FFDSHOW)

NEVER install over the top of SP1 MCE. It's never been designed for that install, and you WILL get issues.

VMC is a pure digital, or pure analogue setup, as such if you have DVB-X equipment setup SVideo/RGB will not be enabled (as will FM be disabled).

The old 'hack' to turn it back on sorta works, but causes issues.

Just so everyone has it, here is the install instructions for the Fiji/TV Pack.

Prepare a machine with clean install of Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Please take note of this, the best way is to use a slipstreamed SP1 Vista disk, but you CAN install RTM and then install SP1, but DON'T do a Windows Update, Just SP1! other updates can cause issues.

The machine will need to meet or exceed the minimum hardware requirements for Windows Vista -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919183

The Windows Vista Service Pack 1 operating system must be Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate (x86 or x64)

Following operating system install, do not launch Windows Media Center or go through Windows Media Center Setup, THIS IS IMPORTANT!

Make sure that if you use nVidia graphics to install the Drivers 7.15.11.7309 posted here, ATI cards 'should' work with the latest Catalyst drivers (except in x64)

Install Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008

    Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 (x86) - MediaCenterTVPack_x86.exe

    Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 (x64) - MediaCenterTVPack_x64.exe

Install the PlayReady PC Runtime  (YES even if you don't think you will be using it!)

    PlayReady PC Runtime (x86) - www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=dadc6bf4-a615-4f23-a7cc-b7569c05d305&DisplayLang=en

    PlayReady PC Runtime (x64) -www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ec9ac8f4-6209-4aea-a302-d9f33a7d4f64&DisplayLang=en

Install the following patches from the Download Center

KB951685 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/951685) - The video playback application stops responding when you watch video or Live TV on a Windows Vista-based computer

KB950754 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950754) - Noticeable problems occur in the video when you use the DirectSound renderer on Windows Vista

Install any required or recommended Windows Updates, I highly recommend installing windows search 4 at the very least.

Make sure you have installed the physical hardware and drivers for your DVB-x cards, Ultimate can have up to 4 of EACH type of tuner (i.e. 4xDVB-S and 4xDVB-T), I use 2xPinnacle 7010ix cards. Make sure the drivers are the Fiji ones (most major cards have at least beta drivers for Fiji). The biggest issue is with DVB-S drivers as they require a new feature incorporated to work correctly, most DVB-T (and DVB-T emulated) cards work ok with RTM/SP1 drivers.

Launch Windows Media Center and go through Windows Media Center Setup, DON'T use the 'quick setup' options, take the time and do it properly.

When and only When everything seems to be working without any hacks then install the patched DLL (download it from here). To do this run takeown /F c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.dll /r /d y then icacls c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.dll /grant yourusername:F /t (replace yourusername with yours)to take ownership of the file, then regsvr32 /u c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.dll then ren c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.dll c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.original, now copy the patched dll into the c:\windows\system32 then run regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msdtvvdec.dll

Righty oh, you now have the h.264 codec installed. If you live in a territory that uses broadcast information that defines the channel as hi-def then you need to install the work around to re-define the channels as generic tv services. See this post for the information on that.

I hope that helps out some people. As a side note if this is a Media Center only machine I would not install any AV (just make sure you scan everything that you copy to it) and I would disable the Auto Updates, just for now at least until we know that MS are not going to break anything with updates that will come out for media center. After all they could stop this patch working, and the other 'real' world issue that there are now 2 flavors of VMC in production, and it's not likely, but far from impossible that an update for the SP1/RTM version of VMC could install by accident on the Fiji box and cause issues.

Is there any progress on the 64-bit version of that dll-file?

Unfortunately from a rather selfish point of view my HTPC is still on 32 bit so I haven't felt the need to really try hard to debug the 64 bit.  I have another totally unrelated project which is consuming my spare time and so I wouldn't expect to see anything soon unless xs4all or someone else decides to take a look.

Well that's too bad... but I can absolutely understand you. I installed the 64 bit version of Vista on my HTPC because I was getting bluescreens with the 32 bit version all the time.
I would take a look at the dll myself if I had the technical skills. I really hope that someone else is working on it...

I would just like to add my thanks for cracking this dll.

Currently I still use MCE2005 and plan to skip Vista altogether. I had been waiting for TV Pack in the hope Microsoft would fill in the gaps, but have been so disgusted by their crippling it I now plan to wait for Windows7 and see if they come to their senses. (I am still waiting for DVB-S2 and encryption support.)

I did however download your version 'just in case', and my anti-virus software which is Sophos Anti-Virus does report it is 'infected' with Mal/Generic-A

This is the Sophos page describing that http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/viruses-and-spyware/malgenerica.html

I noticed someone else previously reported that their AV software had similarly flagged a warning, but I don't recall them specifying which AV package they use or what type of warning.

Personally, I think this is a false alarm triggered by the fact that the DLL is doing a lot of memory swapping and this is being interpreted as malware behaviour. Or of course, Microsoft are sucktastically bad programmers.

OK I downloaded the dll from the 3 sites on post 1, I did this from 3 different computers, all 3 reported it as a trojan.

Mcafee, Norton and AVG were used.

Before I overrule the Anti-Virus, can we get a confirmation there  is nothing in the file that is dodgy?

if you go over this thread you will see whats causing this behaviour. the file is fine
  •
The way the patch is done is by doing an in memory patch of registers which is similar to the way a bunch of virus's work. Hence the behavior is detected as virus like and the heuristic scanners set off the AV warnings. It's not a virus, just the way it works.
