yums: Hi Stuart, I have the exact same issue. VistaCallerID does not show notifcations on the PC or Extenders. It did for the first day or so, but then stopped working and has not started again since. Prior to VistaCallerID, I was using TapiRex without any problems, except for the one or two crashes when trying to few call history on an Extender. I actually prefer the intereface of VistaCallerID, but it is simply not reliable in its current state. If TapiRex updated their interface to a more Vista-ish look I would definitely drop the $30 and switch back. Until then I am holding out for an updated version of VistaCallerID. I know Kentdome is working on a .8 version and he originally said it would be out in August. Hopefully he gets a chance to finish it soon and my caller id notifcations come back. Yums

I still haven't gotten Vista CallerID working, I've been speaking to the developer and sent some log files etc. I think Vista Caller ID will be a great application when its a bit maturer. The UI looks much more up to date than TapiRex.
TapiRex is working well on my system, I have also seen that on the first attempt to view the call history my extender also crashes, I have to power off and on and then I can usually get in to see the calls, I will raise this with Scendix as I also have a support call open with them.
I still can't get the photos of the contacts appearing on the extender I have been told this is a permissions issues with my temp folder but changing the permissions does seem to resolve the problem.
Also Im having issues with the MSN and the naming of my home phone number to "House Phone"
Other than that TapiRex works well.

Tony_Park: Hi Stuart, well, Tapirex is now working for me - took some fiddling - making the changes to drivers that I pointed out earlier, then telling Vista to use the XP versions of the drivers (since I could easily amend the .inf file), however that wasn't enough, tried your called id repair, not sure that made much difference, but then found a trial of Ascendis Caller ID, that also has a repair function that seemed to do the job. Then in tapirex had to set the modem up as both - get caller id on 'caller-id' and handle as data modem. Now seems to be working well again... time for a backup me thinks! Tony

Good to hear you got it working! I will check out this other repair utility it might get Vista CallerID working?
There is a YAC client that works on extenders. Babgvant took the MCE-YAC client and updated it for Vista, including adding extender support. You can run it as a Windows Service. He also created a little tool to get the YAC server to run as a service as well.

It can display pictures too by matching the area code, state, or phone # with files in a photos directory. It doesn't do Outlook lookups.

Can anyone else using TapiRex confirm the following please?
1. Does it crash your extender(s)?
On my XBOX 360 MCX, when I go in to Phone Calls, I just get a blue background and the extender freezes. I have to power off the extender and reconnect, but then the second time I go in to Phone Calls it works!
2. Can you see your Outlook contacts photos in Phone Calls on the extender?
It works on the PC and my contacts have their photos displayed but on the extender they are not and I just get the default caller icons.
I've contacted Scendix support but they haven't got a solution for me yet.
I'm not currently using TapiRex and am unable to test it for you.
Out of curiosity what modem are you using? I have been testing with a laptop that had a built in modem and all has been well, however I’m having the worst luck finding a PCI or external modem that works correctly. My recent purchase of a Rosewill RNX=56AG hasn’t gone well. Using HyperTerminal and calling from the same cell phone, the modem only returns caller ID information about 30-40% of the time.
Ideally I would like to find a external modem however a PCI one will work as well. What are you guys using that consistently works?

I've tested part 1 for you, it works fine on my Xbox360, no problems whatsoever, but apparently someone called me last night at 00:45, that I didn't know about, but shows up on received calls!!!
I can't test part 2, as I don't use Outlook on my media pc.
Hope thats some help,Tony

Hi,
I use a Pluscom (Agere) USB modem - at the moment seems to be working 100% of the time, however only time will tell with it - I had had problems with it back on a different pc.
Biggest problem is getting the drivers setup to recognise the TAPI details received when the phone rings, but once thats sorted, it works well.

I'm using an Agere Systems HDA Modem on my Acer Aspire 3680
I cannot comment on a good PCI modem as I have not tested this on a PC tower!

Tony thanks, maybe its because I am using a crappy old laptop at the moment and not a decent PC.
Someone else on this thread said their extender was also crashing however.
I take it your PC was on at the time of that late call, not sure if it can pull it out of S3 sleep for a call?

Tony, so are you using TapiRex's inbuilt contact database for your contacts instead of Outlook? Do the photos from that show up in the extender?
Cheers
yep it was recording one of the many CSI programs that my wife watches at the time.
I have to say, it seems to make a change that my setup works, and others don't - usually its the other way round!
There is an option in the device manager to allow the modem to bring the computer out of sleep, however I've unchecked that, as I'm not bothered about that bit working.

Ok I think I will test if an incoming call can wake up the PC.
Scendix support replied to me a few times about some of the issues I'm having but seem to have died off now. Another issue is that on mine it always says Incoming call for Agere Systems HDA Modem.
I added an MSN in the TapiRex options, for our house number and called it House Phone but it never says Incoming call for House Phone.
My screen shots where it says Incoming call for House Phone were a simulated call and not a real phone call!
Wake from sleep doesn't seem to work, went in to Device Manager found the modem, on the Power Management tab, Allow this device to wake computer was already enabled.
Put computer to sleep, called the house and nothing PC did not wake up.
Hi
mine does the same - always says the modem name, rather than 'Home Phone' or anything - mind, not sure where to change it, I did see if I could find where to change it the other day, nothing looked like it was the right place - maybe the modem name needs changing in the control panel rather than in Tapirex.
Will try it when I finish work, guess I should really do some ;-)

Can you actually change the name of the modem in Control Panel, I thought of that as well but could not seem to change the name?
Right click the TapiRex icon in the system tray go to options, MSN tab. I deleted the default MSN with the * and added a new one with my home phone number and the name "House Phone"
