Has anyone figured out how to sync WTV files to a Windows Mobile Phone?
I want to be able to come home from the office, plug my phone into the USB cable to charge, and have my shows transcoded for pickup in the morning on my way to work.
I used to be able to get this functionality through Windows Media Player, but after the TV Pack and new WTV file format, this functionality seems to be broken in Windows Vista.
I'm wondering if anyone has found a fix, workaround, or alternate solution. I've read that the Zune players support this functionality, but I'd prefer not to have to carry two devices.
Well, in theory its easily possible, however in practice its very hard since I dont know of a single application that is able to read WTV files, except for mediacenter itself
Expect this to change over the next 6 - 12 months once people get more familiar with the new format and more people actually begin using the TV Pack.
My advice is to go back to the release of MCE that shipped with vista, which uses DVR-MS files and use AVC to create mobile content.
I was able to find a utility that can convert WTV files to the original DVR-MS format. It's called ToDvrms. Here's a link to version 1.0.0.4 of the program:http://babgvant.com/files/folders/misc/entry10147.aspx
I converted an HD episode of the family guy from WTV to DVR-MS. It was a 500MB file that converted in a couple minutes on my machine. I confirmed that it converted succesfully by playing the file back on a vista machine that does not have the TV pack installed.
Anyway, now I'm thinking about a script to automatically convert WTV files as they are recorded for conversion to Windows Mobile.
