    Hello!

    OK, have been attempting to get HD sat channels working in VMC for over a week now without any luck.

    I’m a seasoned Media Center User since MCE2005 but really hit the wall with getting HD sat channels to work in VMC.

    My spec-

    ASUS P5E-V HDMI mobo (latest ASUS chipset drivers)
    Intel Quad 6600
    4GB RAM
    ATI HD2600XT GPU (Catalyst 8.11)
    ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 (LPCM until driver sorted)
    Nova HD-S2 sat card (4.6b driver)
    Nova 500 dual DVB-T Terrestrial Card (4.6b driver)
    (Connected through Onkyo 905 + Samsung LE40M87)

    Vista Ultimate (32bit) SP1 + TVPack + MSDTVVDEC.DLL (hacked – timebomb removed)

    DVBViewer for testing BBCHD (worked perfect)

    My Issue -

    Vista SP1 installed including TVPack and hacked .dll, scanned and received all channels from 3 tuners.

    Terrestrial channels, SD sat channels working fine BUT BBC HD – when selecting channel I get black screen with sound for about 1 second then nothing. Switch back to an SD channel and fine, go back to BBCHD and get “Video error – the files needed are not install or not working correctly....”

    I’ve tried Pressing stop then live TV but no joy and checked for the ITVHD reg entry is set to 0 and not 1 as this symptom seemed similar.

    DECCHECK shows MSDTVVDEC.DLL as default and preferred.

    Had no issues with TV Pack install and MSDTVVDEC.DLL ownership/permissions/rename/replacement with hacked DLL.

    Maybe something with the combination of my hardware but after 3 rebuilds each of which were squeaky clean I’m at a loss.

    Followed this guide by charlas - http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/296802/296862/ShowThread.aspx#296862

    Any help, suggestions or advice gratefully received!!

    Hi MisterT,

    have you checked the sources for your BBCHD channel - this should only be available on DVB-S channels, wondering if VMC is trying to find it on your DVB-T signals currently.

    Hello,

    Good suggestion but already checked it out - Edit Channel and checked source was using the Nova S2 but thanks for the reply.

    do you have the dvbs mheg hack enabled? I found bbc hd would fade to black with that enabled so I removed it and it works ok now.

    Hi Vengence_Irl,

    Not sure on that hack unless you mean the reg entry to enable ITVHD? either case if you could remind me?

    Cheers.
  •
    Indeed thats the one. I found BBCHD became very unreliable with it enabled.

    Hi,

    Yeah, just double checked and the mheg is set to 0 (have also tested to 1 and still no joy) -

    Current reg entry

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig]
    "iVideoSource"=dword:00000001
    "iConfigured"=dword:00000001
    "iAtscVideoSource"=dword:ffffffff
    "iBroadcastStandard"=dword:ffffffff
    "fHasSTB"=dword:ffffffff
    "fHasDVB"=dword:ffffffff
    "fAtscOnly"=dword:ffffffff
    "fAllowDvbsMHEG"=dword:00000000
    "fPbdaConfigured"=dword:00000000
    "Version"="65537"

    *BUT*
    I've just been playing around with DVBViewer and switching the H264 decoder to MSDTVVDEC gives me audio only with black screen?

    This would probably indicate it's the DLL which is the issue but have tried multiple downloads of this file and sure it's the correct hacked one (or am i wrong??).

    Is there anyway of compairing mine with the one you have working? -

    MSDTVVDEC.DLL Date Modified 18/09/08 22:32 Size 1,569KB
    DECCHECK Decoder Version 11.0.6001.7000

    Thanks.

    are you unregistering the old file, taking ownership of the hacked file, copying and reregistering?
    is UAC on? have you tried safe mode?

    the version number is the same as mine, can you check if its 1,606,656 bytes

    Gone through the hoops of unregistering/ownership/permissions/renaming and replacing/registering.

    UAC is off and tried through safe mode.

    Not at my media pc at mo but will look into the exact file size.

    Cheers.

    Hi, Just to confirm my current MSDTVVDEC.DLL is 1,606,656 bytes.

    I have been doing some other testing and tried what I beleived to be the original timebombed Beta MSDTVVDEC.DLL.  Firstly the DLL failed to register (as suspected) so I set the system date back to 30/08/08 then successfully registered the DLL.  I then went back into Media Center and tried BBC HD but the same error occured - Black screen with audio for 1 second then nothing!

    This suggests to me that my inherent issue may lie elsewhere??

    Hi MisterT,

    Did you ever get this working? I have exactly the same symptoms you describe. I've also followed the same steps as you. SD programs are fine, but BBC HD shows only black - briefly you hear the audio, and then that goes too. If I exit VMC while on BBC HD, then go back to live TV, it comes up with the error "Video Error. Files needed to display video are not installed or not working properly...."

    It would be great if you found a solution!

    Thanks.

    Hi Maurice,

    Sorry to say for this year I've given up on HD in Vista Media Center! I hate to admit defeat having duelled with VMC/MCE on many occasions.

    If I can pick up the willpower to tackle this again in the New Year I'll post back to this thread if successful.

    My gut feeling is that we both share an underlining issue not been picked up on yet as I've spent a lot of time on clean installs and following many recommendations/guides to the letter without success.

    Good luck, and in the mean time I hope you find a solution (gratefully appreciated if you could post back if you find the holy HD grail!)
