    $40 bucks for a hack.....

That's insane.   I understand charging for a product but $40, and still no RW\FF or menu's.

Will this allow me to stream dvds from my sony dvd changer?
  •

Vader504, thanks for all of your work you have done regarding playing DVDs and your contribution to this site... It's just, in today's market where you can get a iPhone app for less then $10.00, $40 sounds like alot... I'm sure that would appeal to the masses, only my opinion...

Question for have you taken a look at W7?

Yes absolutely. It's the main reason I wrote this. I have three Sony changer and now I can watch my dvds's anywhere I want, and using the same user interface (the dvd library) everywhere.

This is definitely not a mass market product. It's a very narrow vertical market - those of us who spend (waste?) a lot of time and money trying to build the perfect Media Center based whole house entertainment system. If you don't have a fairly elaborate system, with a hefty PC, mega storage for ripped dvds, changers filled with hundreds of dvds, and multiple extenders, then maybe you don't need this program. All I can say is give the trial version a try when it's released, and if you don't think it's worth the asking price, uninstall it. You have nothing to lose.

Yes I have. I haven't tried it with my transcoder though. If the change from MCE to VMC didn't break it, I'm hoping the change to W7 won't either. It looks like a much smaller change, more of an update.

    2 Things..

    1.  Thank you for putting out the free software in the past that would let me stream dvd to my extender.  That was awesome.

    2.  If I still have your free version what is going to be the big advantage paying you $40 for a new version.  The only real upgrade I see is a single installer.  For $40 will I get FF/RW or DVD menus?

    Great job! Count me in.

I should have sent you $40 for the previous version - just because you saved me countless hours trying to get things working on my own. Thanks for investing your personal time and sharing your successes.

    Hi Vader,

first thanks for this great Tool!!!

i was taking a look on the new features. You mentioned an automatic process to find the best command line for Mencoder.

I also did some testing’s in the past, also with the original string from your first releases and the strings you tested with  cw-kid and JesperH (some of them, documented in the wiki from CW-kid)

With this string from the wiki (PAL) I get an immense increase of CPU performance. Also the time till Mencoder is finished with the transcoding is much longer compared to the original provided string.

In view of using multiple extenders at the same time this is an important point or in some cases a showstopper.

For example, with the original String the movie “the brave one” takes on my system about 8 – 10 minutes till the transcoding is finished. The processor load in that time space is about 18 – 25 % on a AMD 4850e.

With the PAL String from the wiki the CPU load goes up to 50 % and takes about an hour to transcode. If I want to use more than 2 extenders at the same time I see problems. At the moment I only have 2 extenders to test.

    Question:

Doing your testing’s with the different command lines, did you also take a look on CPU performance and time to be finished?

    Conclusion:

With the new version it should be possible to deactivated the “choose command line automatic” feature and provide a default Command line. Or you could implement an intelligent algorithm that makes a decision depending on how many extenders
are connected at the same time.

    .thx

I am interested in the new transcoder, and think that $40 for a niche market is reasonable. Question: Will your DLL work under 64 bit Vista? I have read up on Transcode360/MyMovies solutions, and the hardlinks/fsutil approaches, but would prefer a simpler solution with your transcoder.

Any ETA on release, other than "a few days"? Need a beta tester? I have a MC (64 bit Vista Home Premium, new desktop) and MCE's (XBox 360 and Linksys 2200) waiting to test. Thanks!

Sorry I'm new to the media center + extender (xbox 360) game. What does your new software do? I read the above link and I'm still not sure.

    Thanks,jb

Vader, I would be glad to pay the 40$ for your transcode utility however I would love to verify it resolves my previous posted issue. Any chance I can get a private drop for beta testing to make sure the problem has been resolved? I assume you have added better logging in the upcoming release?

I just started looking into transcoding yesterday and had a nightmare of a time with the current program. I tried the directions here: http://windowsmediacenter.blogspot.com/2008/07/using-transcode-360-with-my-movies-and.html
The main problem I have is that it takes about 5 attempts to connect to the media center now. It gets into the black screen and tries to connect and then errors off.

Then if it does connect, the audio is out of synch.

Then if I back out and play a different stream it might start to play, then lock up, then cause the xbox to disconnect.

So I might try to to tinker with this some more to get it to work but if I am to try out another product 5 minutes is not a long enough test to see if there will be memory issues with the buffer or changing streams. I'd make it 15 minutes or a week. But if it worked I'd gladly drop 40 bucks.

FYI I have a Phenom 8450 tricore with 2Gb of RAM. Should that be enough?
