    Hi,

Just joined the forum, and glad I found it, I am sure I will learn a lot and hope to contribute as well.

    I have a strange problem.

Whether watching a DVD or DVD on hard disk (wmv) in full screen, everytime the play/pause/etc controls vanish, the video starts flickering. If I move the mouse and bring the controls back, it plays fine, but as soon as the disappear, it all happens again.   Also DVD and rip DVD plays fine in window, no flicker or artifacts what so ever.   DVD and rip DVD plays fine in Windows Media Player.  Just within VMC in full screen I have this problem.

A little about the flicker, actually the moment the controls vanish, it is like a screen frame capture is taken, then this frame is flickered in several times per second into the video while playing.  Not until I move the mouse and the controls re-appear does this go away, then the controls vansish and a new frame capture happens and the cycle repeats.

Live HD TV and PVR play fine full screen within VMC, no flicker or artifacts.

My system running Windows Vista 64vit on a Dell XPS720 with a Radeon HD4870 Gfx card.

I'm having the same exact problem.  It is only within VMC and, in my case, only occurring when I play analog files.  I thought it was a codec issue at first and tried a few different decoders but the issue is still there.  MPC and WMP play the files without issue.

I'm on Vista 32 using a Radeon 4850, 680i, and a Q6600.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Have now tried 3 different drivers for my 4850.  8.12, 9.1, and 9.2 of the Catalyst drivers.  Still the same problem.

    zefiend,

I gave up after countless searches and not one clue.

I installed TheaterTek Trial and this solved my issue.  Since,  I went ahead and activated TT, to me this was a small price to pay.

We are not alone,  found a post here from someone else, but no replies here either.

    Good luck

I had this issue before and resolved it.  If I recall correctly, this is a bug in the video driver that shows up when you have certain 3D gaming settings enabled.

Unfortunately I can't recall exactly which setting causes the issue, but if you revert the 3D settings to "balanced" the problem goes away.

Note that this bug has been there for a while now (through many releases of Catalyst).

Hey, turning the 3D settings in CCC back to balanced fixed the problem.  Thank you much HT Slider!
