I finally have fixed Media Center. Check this out and get yours working too. These directions are spicifically for Wichita, KS area. I modified it a bit so that you can gather the info you need to acomplish the same.

I have been picking up digital broadcast on Windows Media Center MCE for @2 years now. I started with XP then recently went to Vista.

Since Feb I have had a problem receiving 8-1,8-2,8-3,10-1 since they did the turnover in Feb. I have always had a problem receiving 36.

I just figured out what the problem is with these problematic channels at least for Vista MCE.

I have always had a problem with 36 in both XP and Vista MCE. I found the solution for 36-1.

I contacted the Engineer at 36 and he corrected a transport stream problem (there was a TSID mismatch).

So 36 is working now you don’t have to do anything. Thanks to Peter Near’s Blog for the transport stream solution.

MCE has probably been indicating red reception on 8 & 10 and the channels do not work.

The problem with 8 & 10 is that there is some channel confusion with the RF(physical) channel number and the actual channel number (major).

Procedures to fix 8-1,8-2,8-3,10-1 running Vista MCE--- Wichita area:

    Close MCE

    Edit atscchannels.xml - the path is c:\programdata\microsoft\ehome\epg\prefs

Removing the channels that are not working.

You can edit this file using notepad or WordPad.

Remove the lines for channels 8 and 10 the file should look like this when finished:

      channel callsign="KWCH" version="0" physical="19" major="12"

      channel callsign="KSAS" version="0" physical="26" major="24"

      channel callsign="KAKE" version="0" physical="21" major="10"

      channel callsign="KSNW" version="0" physical="45" major="3"

      channel callsign="KSCW" version="0" physical="31" major="33"

    Next - add missing channels

MCE go to Settings/TV/Guide select “Add Missing Channels”

    add the following:

8-1 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 8

***** this was the main problem - the physical channel was 29 in the atscchannels.xml file. Channel 29 is the proper physical channel number but to get the channel to work in MCE I had to enter channel 8 in the "assigned frequency"     ******************

8-2 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 8

8-3 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 8

10-1 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 10

49-1 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 49

49-2 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 49

49-3 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 49

49-4 when prompted for "assigned frequency" enter 49

All of the channels should be working now. One more step

Next - MCE go to settings/TV/Guide select “Set Up Guide Listings” just follow the steps.

    Done!

I am receiving all channels now 3,8-1,8-2,8-3,10,12,12-2,24,33,36,49-1,49-2,49-3,49-4. The programming guide is still not working properly on these channels; 8-2,8-3,49-1,49-2,49-3,49-4. The programming guide problem is caused by a combination of MCE the guide provider of the listing "zap2it.com". I don’t think I will ever be able to get the guide working properly. If MCE would only pickup the EPG, the Electronic Programming Guide that is transmitted from the broadcaster then there would not be a problem.

If you need to find out the "physical" channel number: I was able to use the software that came with my tuner card to find the physical channel numbers. You can also use TSReaderLite

http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/support.html . You have to record a minute of the transport stream then look at the data.

Way to go! Usually, I find that the TV stations say "Nobody else is complaining" and ignore you when you contact them.

To get the guide working you can try this:
    http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/185344.aspx

Basically, it downloads the guide data for the local digital cable system in your area.

If you have an analog tuner in your system I think you can just re-setup tv as using cable without a box and download it without using the registry hack.  I dont have any analog tuners in mine so I havent ever done that though.
