Can I change an ugly Thumbnail on dvr-ms?

I have lots of Recorded TV. The thumbnail view in the Recorded TV strip appears to be some time distance from the beginning of the file, and sometimes it lands in the middle of a commercial (really lame looking).

It would be awesome if there was a way to change the time offset. Is there something in the metadata that tells where the thumb starts?

It would be excellent to show the title banner that appears after the opening credits for my Star Trek (TOS) recordings.

Unfortunately there is no way to change an existing thumbnail. We already have a work item to track the not-so-smart thumbnail issue and hope can be addressed in the future release.

This is one of the reasons I don't like the default setting that starts recordings two minutes early. Instead I change my NTP settings to update the clock more often to make sure I don't miss the beginning of a show.

Yeah, but lots of stations "jump the gun" and start early.

This hasn't been my experience at all. In fact the only show I can think of that has started even 5 seconds early in the past 8 years since I've been using a DVR is SNL. Which is why I wish MC let you set the start time early on a single series recording like TiVo does.

Now I have had problems getting my PC time to stay in sync. It always seems to drift late by about 45 seconds. I even set it to update every 6 hours and yet somehow the time service keeps getting stopped. No clue why it can't just stay in sync without ntp, but that is for another topic.

Well I can tell you that Wheel of Fortune on CBS in Houston starts at least 1 minute early every time.

Interesting. And what about your PC, have you ever went to time.gov and checked to see if it was off?

This was on  my Cable PVR, where I couldn't set it to record early or late automatically - I had to set all the recordings to start at 6:29 to catch the beginning. I just use the pre and post buffer in MC and deal with the (few) bad thumbnails.

Personally I don't care about the thumbnails, I just hate having to fwd through the first minute or two to watch the show.
