Hi
When using Vista RTM and the latest ATI drivers (8-31-100_vista32_rtm.exe) on my Radeon 9600 Pro and Sony 46x2000 LCD TV through DVI-HDMI, I have got a continual problem whereby when swapping inputs on the TV and then going back to the MCE input, the screen is black (ie no signal). Nothing has crashed as such, and I can get the screen back if, for example, Vista is at the desktop and I press the Media Center button on the remote. It seems like a sync problem to me. I do not have this problem using exactly the same hardware and TV when on MCE 2005.
I have messed about with refresh rates and resolutions but no joy. For info, the TV is native 1080P through HDMI
Has anyone else come across this, and if so, is there a fix?
TIA
Rich

I'v had this same issue and I honsely think its a issue with the drivers still.
I have the ATI x1600 512 card, I've been using the DVI out to the TV, (which gives the best picture, but I've tried swapping to the svideo to see if that would saove the stutter issue I was having, when I'd try going back to the DVI out, I'd have to go into remove the svideo cable from the graphics card as well as going to the Catalyst Control Center and manually tell the software I'm now using the DVI out.
Before I was using the Catalyst control I couldn't swap back
Hope this help
Thanks for confirming - at least I know its nothing to do with my setup as such.
Cheers
have you tried the display detection option in CCC...auto or manual detect...
maybe that will help the issue untill new driver release..
i swap back and forth between VGA and DVI (with hotkeys) with no probs
I'm having the same problem using an ATI x700 Pro (obviously using Jan. 29 drivers) connected through a Pioneer receiver to a 42" Panasonic Viera via DVI -> HDMI -> HDMI. When I switch modes on the receiver, I usually can't get back in due to the black screen. This usually depends on how long it has been before I switch back. When I can get back in, the resolution will often have switched back to a very low resolution and I have to switch it back to my custom HD resolution through the Catayst Control Center. The desktop shortcut on created to the profile doesn't even want to work.
With the old drivers, I would be able to RDP into my Media Center PC from another machine, which would bring it to the logon screen, and pressing "enter" on the keyboard would log me in and often restore the screen. Placing the machine into Standby and waking it back up would often resolve the problem, but that's no longer the case.
By the way, has anyone tried saving the settings using Powerstrip and attempting to restore them using a shortcut key? I'll probably try it today if time permits.
Anyways, I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I think it's safe to say that it's ATI driver-related at this point in time.
Yup! I got the same issue here! I'm running Retail Vista 32bit with an ATI X800XL card going to a PIO Plasma by DVI to HDMI. If I change inputs or even turn my TV off (PC still on); then the TV on again, the signal is gone but I can still hear the audio. Just loss of display signal.
I too think it's a driver problem. I once had this same problem with MCE 2005 with the same CARD and older drivers. I put in a bunch of tix with ATI and they eventually fixed it within their next couple of driver releases.
But it looks like it's back again! Now with Vista! I put in my ticket with them on this new problem. Hopefully they fix this (again) soon with Vista and their drivers.
I suggest everyone in this forum that is having this issue or anything similar to it, regardless of the ATI model card, to submitt a ticket (www.ati.com).
why dont you guys make hotkey shortcuts(ATI Profiles Manager) this way you can refresh what ever display setting you need..hmmm......does it work?
temp fix......
After rebuilding my machine, I find that putting the machine into standby and waking it back up usually works. I haven't had to reboot it yet.
I tried creating a shortcut and it doesn't seem to do anything. My Powerstrip shortcut to restore the default profile works well when Vista decides to lower the resolution on me.
