    ehrec.exe stopped working

After months of perfect service my Media PC has now started playing up, earlier when flicking through the guide I got an error message stating that a part of media centre had stopped and restarting it might help - but I can't get that error up now after 5 mins of going up and down!
When I set up a recording it states the recording could not be sheduled for an unknown reason.
If I try to record a program that's playing, it says it's in the middle of downloading guide data.
Also since this started it's placing reports in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue at the rate of one every 2 or 3 mins and an hour's worth is about a Gig!
Inside each one is some dumps and report.wer which typically looks like this.

Sounds like a corrupted Programming Guide

Try moving the folder "C:\users\all users\microsoft\ehome\epg " somewhere out of the ehome directory and run through the Guide setup again. If it doesn't work you can just move the old epg folder back in.

You may want to move the "C:\users\all users\microsoft\ehome\Recording" folder also.

The All Users directory is hidden, so you will have to enable viewing of hidden files and folders. Also, you'll probably have to stop all the Media Center services to get full access to those folders.

    Excellent! Glad I could help!

I just want to thank you also bjbinc - I'd spent half the night chasing my tail trying to fix my Media Center.

I'd installed the October Rollup for Media Center for Vista and everything had stopped working, after 30 seconds I got the good old 'A Critical Media Center Process has failed...' error and nothing worked.

I'd been crawling all over everywhere trying to find people having similar issues, I eventually tied down the error to ehRec from crawling through .crash files, found your post and bingo everything back to lovely perfection!

So a huge thank you from me because I would never have thought to do that! Cheers.
