Howdy Everyone!
I picked up a few Sony VGP-XL1B DVD changers last year when TigerDirect had them on the cheap. Upon receiving them I'd already updated to Vista x64 and as a result wasn't ever able to use Sony's bundled software for auto-CD ripping and DVD Library management.
I've been very busy with work and other projects for the last 6-7 months and am finally ready to start playing with these DVD changers again. So I was wondering if the fine folks here at The Green Button could help me out with some questions that may have been answered in the last few months.
1) Has Sony released Vista x64 compatiable software for the VGP-XL1B?
2) Has anyone developed software or a working process to batch rip DVDs from the changer?
3) Has anyone developed software or a working process to access (transcode) the DVD changers via a Media Center Extender (XBox 360)?
Thanks in advance!
As far as I know there is no Sony software for Vista at all.
Not sure about #2 but I don't think so. #3 is also no, but I *think* my movies is working on it.
Sony has released a new changer utility for Vista MC.http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGPXL1B3&upd_id=2669&os_id=28But like usual, Sony , for some reason, does not like Vista 64.
I have been able to "Crack" most of their stuff to work on the 64-bit OS.
I am about half way there on this one.I will let you know when I get it done.
Howdy.
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but does anyone know of a way of getting this changer to work in Win7 / Vista 64?
I have 10 of them working right now with windows 7 x64.
I was running Vista x64 before.
Howdy,
Did you upgrade from Vx64 to get this to work?
Can you enlighten us as to how you got the Sony software installed?
Would be very helpful!!!
Cheers.
bump - would LOVE to get this to work!!!
Small update-
I've managed to extract the files from the exe, and found within an msi istaller which again I have extracted and found all the reg entry instructions, dlls etc.
Now if anyone can help me figure out a way that this installer worked, perhaps we can fudge a manual method, throwing all the files where they should be, registering the dlls, and put the reg entries in...
A little out of my league here...
You are treading on slippery ground.
There are usually inf files which steer the installation. It is usually pretty obtuse, but it is just a text file.
It may be easier to make the setup.exe run in compatibility mode as XP. Have you tried that?
Hi gildavis,
Yep, tried every mode and run as admin - wont install. I couldn't see an inf that the installer uses. I'm guessing they used some other method or it's hidden in the code somewhere.
My next avenue, I've just done is install it on a Vistax86 whilst moitoring the install with installwatch pro.
This has listed all changes registry entries (which you can import) and file additions. The issue I'm now facing is that there are one heck of a lot of changes, so manual method looks painstaking to do.
Nuts....
Just checking, but when I said compatibility mode, I meant:
I don't know about everyone else, but I've used this changer with Vista Ultimate x64 and now 7 Home Premium x64 without issue. Both OS's were each fresh installs. I didn't install the Sony software at all. Just plugged into the firewire port and fired up the HTPC. Windows recognized the device and installed the necessary drivers. Started Media Center and selected Movies from the menu. Waited patiently while the changer was scanned. That's it!
You shouldn't have to install any additional software for basic functionality.
