I installed the official microsoft/netflix plugin from in VMC. After everything was installed, I had no Netflix icon. Netflix was unable to troubleshoot, and Microsoft was unwilling because I had an OEM VMC.
This solution will wipe ALL of your scheduled recordings, your music, video, and pictured META information. Your actual pictures, music & video will still be there; your previously recorded shows will still be there, and you WILL need to add ALL your scheduled recording again.
On my P4 2.3Ghz non-HT single core with 2GB cheap ram and a ghetto old hard drive, this process took 45 minutes, and about 15 minutes to reprogram my recordings and add the pix and muzak.
Here are the steps to resolution:
1. uninstall the netflix plugin and silverlight from the programs list in the control panel.
2. delete everything in the %ProgramData%\Microsoft\eHome directory.
3. reboot.
4. launch VMC.
5. setup VMC again by going to: Tasks -> settings -> General -> Windows Media Center Setup -> Run Setup Again.
6. Curse Microsoft while you setup your zip code, tuners, display, monitor, and download the guide.
7. reboot.
8. launch VMC.
9. click on the netflix tile next to recorded tv.
10. follow the prompts to donload/install netflix and silverlight.
11. when done, it will restart and you click on netflix again.
12. enter your email and assword ... enjoy!
13. Curse Microsoft again for not helping me, and making me do everything under the sun in two days to solve this.
I did a bunch of other stuff before these steps, but I think this is what did the trick. If it still doesnt work, I can let you know what other stuff I did before these steps.
I don,t know if any of these made a difference, but here are the steps I performed before the ones listed above:
1. run the following command from a cmd window: "C:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -u"
-----------------
1. sfc /scannow
2. chkdsk /x
3. bcdedit -debug off
4. net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD
1. Uninstalled KBs 951698, 951978, 951847 (these updates were not installed on a system that it was working on.)
Can those of you who are missing the tile try running
C:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -u
from a command prompt, then restarting ehshell once the mcupdate.exe process has finished running? You can start Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc) and click on the processes tab to see if it is still running.Obviously you should replace C: with your Windows drive if you didn't install to C:. Thanks,
Jeff
No luck here as well. I also have another applicatin (CinemaNow) installed to the left of Recorded TV.
Hi
I had netflix working perfectly fine in VMC (with TV Pack) a few weeks ago but now I don't have the netflix tile anymore (no idea why it's missing, maybe I lost it when I rescanned the QAM channels?)
It appears that it is installed and that the only thing missing is the tile. The mcupdate -u does not seem to help. Is there a file somewhere or a registry entry that I could manually edit to solve the problem without having to delete everything in the ehome folder?
Thanks
I have the same problem. I have 3 machines, and 1 of them it just will NOT re appear. No matter what I do. Blah...
Thanks Zeke_D. This worked on W7MC as well. I was missing Sports, Netflix and Internet TV add-ins though they were in my installed programs list. Good job! This is the solution that worked after trying every other W7MC suggestion I could find. Removing silverlight and emptying the eHome directory must be the critical steps.
