In an effort to overcome the known failings of the DMA2100 extender to wake my Vista PC I hoped to be able to use the Wake up on USB function of my Abit PC to circumvent the issue. The Vista PC enacts perfectly the wake up functions using scheduled recording and remote controls. I therefore reasoned that by connecting my LAN (from the DMA2100) to the PC via a USB/Lan convertor that when the DMA2100 sent a wake up message the USB would react. But it doesn't. Investigation shows that the option "allow this device to wake the computer" for the USB port that I am using with the convertor is greyed out - but it is fine for the eHome receiver that also connects via a USB port.
The registry changes I have seen regarding USBBIOSx seem to apply to Xp but not Vista - would this change work for Vista?
Can anyone shed any light on how to get the option "allow this device to wake the computer" available for the USB Lan to ethernet device that i have connected to the PC?
thanks
Mike
I don't think there's any chance of this solution working. I'm not familiar with the DMA2100 (I use 360's as extenders) but if the WOL message isn't right for the onboard NIC, it's not going to be right for the USB NIC. Not to mention I'm unaware of any USB NICs which support WOL.
Aside from that, you need to configure the PC to supply power to the USB ports when asleep. In some cases that is accomplished though jumpers, on others it is a BIOS setting.

I'm pretty sure the DMA2100 doesn't send a WOL (Wake On Lan) message at all. (Otherwise I'd have my machine go to sleep too.)
