Upgraded CPU, now tuner card doesn't work (DRM issue)

I upgraded my CPU and now I have DRM issues; i.e., my TV tuner card isn't recognized anymore.  I've done loads of Googling.  Threads I've read (here and elsewhere) suggest that I clear out the DRM folder.  After unhiding all hidden files and system files (as described in my findings) the only thing in the DRM folder was a folder named "Server."  And the Server folder was empty.  Per the suggestion/instructions, I deleted everything from the DRM folder (i.e., the empty "Server" folder).  But to no avail ...

Another suggestion was to rename the DRM folder; that doesn't work either.  Or to upgrade my DRM here, http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1  In Firefox or Chrome, the "Upgrade" button is grayed out.  Being a Microsoft website, I figured I should try IE.  But with IE, not only is the button greyed out, it crashes IE (so no luck there.)

I'm annoyed because I don't even have any DRM content on my computer (other than the "built-in" DRM of my tuner card/CPU combo.)

Any suggestions I may have overlooked? Thanks.

Kind of a stab in the dark, but have you tried your tuner in another slot?

  •
The tuner card is for a PCI Express x1 slot; unfortunately my motherboard only has one such slot. It's unlikely to be the slot, because when I switch back to my old CPU, it works fine and dandy. I appreciate your shot in the dark, though. :)

Ahh shucks. My thoughts were not that the slot is bad, but a re-init for Windows to kick its' butt so to speak and set up the tuner.

So...you tried uninstalling the card from device manager with old CPU first? then swap CPU and try?

I hadn't tried that at all. Since posting your reply, I gave it a shot. I put back the old CPU, completely uninstalled the driver through the device manager, unplugged the card and restarted (keeping the old CPU) to make the uninstall final. I shut down, put in the new CPU, started Windows, only to get the same errors as before (allow me to post a screen-capture shot [I wasn't able to do it in my initial post because I was at work.]) Within 30 seconds of starting Windows, I've been getting the following:

Clicking on the "View problem details" shows me this:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: ehPrivJob.exe
    Application Version: 6.0.6001.18000
    Application Timestamp: 479192da
    Fault Module Name: Indiv01.key
    Fault Module Version: 11.0.6000.6324
    Fault Module Timestamp: 47e3ab08
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 00100b83
    OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional Information 1: 3b5e
    Additional Information 2: e03563adbc8369d76b052912313f1eba
    Additional Information 3: 6c06
    Additional Information 4: 5003f9f3128122c3095d4cedc4ee74ea
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

All of my Googling has led me to the above "Fault Module Name: Indiv01.key" (apparently it's a DRM thing.) So it seems that removing the tuner card (drivers and all) still doesn't fix the issue; Windows only recognizes my old CPUID.

I'm out of ideas sorry. Hopefully someone else can chime in with a solution.

[edit] Okay another thought - Has your windows deactivated itself with the change of CPU?

If you click properties of computer, what is your windows activation status?

    HOT DAMN! IT'S FIXED!!!!!

So I put the old CPU back in, went to the link in my first post, http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1 (using IE, of course) and the "Upgrade" button was NOT grayed out. I clicked it, it upgraded whatever the hell needed to be upgraded. Then I put in the new CPU and everything is working!

stonethecrows, I must say, your suggestion about uninstalling the tuner card with the old CPU in was actually the catalyst for my reasoning to try the "upgrade" URL with the old CPU. Thanks!!!

Coolio. I've learned something too. Will remember this if I upgrade CPU in the future. Have fun!

I fixed mine by deleting the contents of the DRM folder (C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/DRM/). You may need to enable viewing hidden system files in folder options to see it.

Glad you got it working though.

That was my whole problem to begin with; i.e., I did enable the viewing of not only hidden files, but system files as well.  Who knows why it didn't work?  I'm just glad I managed to get it fixed. Smile
