I think my question may be best answered by getting right to the point.  I want to record some of my extra package channels from comcast.  Namely things on Fox Soccer Channel, HD Sports, etc.  Im really frustrated with this set up but want to make sure what im trying to do can be done first.

 Like i said, i want to record channels outside the basic cable lineup.  I have comcast digital cable with extended basic, the HD package, the sports package, etc.  Are those channels even recordable?   Is that the diff b/w clear and non-clear QAM? 

 I'm about to pull my hair out so any help is much appreciated.   Again, its also possible that my setup is incorrect with regard to connections, but I followed these instructions at least 6 times. 

There is only one input on your dual tuner so to connect to a cablebox would have to disable the second tuner.  You would also not be able to record HD because the RF out on your cable box is SD only.  Your best bet for premium channels is a cablecard tuner. 

*Edit* Or the hdpvr.  I haven't used it.
