I just use AVG. It's free and doesn't affect any of my playback, etc...

None here, but I do use MSE on all of my clients. I don't download anything directly to my WHS and I rarely introduce new software (especially unknown software) to my WHS. So, for my uses antivirus on the clients is sufficient.
Cost more for the Pro licenses (It was something like $80 vs $40) and really didn't add much (I don't need scheduled scans etc).
Looks like the family pack is discontinued for now also. I'll need to check what v5 does to WHS, just installed it onto a new build last night but that machine is off at the moment.

What do you need to do to get security essentials installed on WHS. Do you use the version listed for XP.
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I am using the Kaspersky antivirus. It has amazing track record for virus detection without slowing down the system.
As I mentioned before, I'm using Avast! I'm still using 4.8 (WHS+10 clients) as they offered me a 30% discount to renew. I let the time to renew lapse and the price went back up, so I emailed their customer support and they provided me with another discount code within days.
I was happy to receive that personal customer service and it put more value in my (re-)purchase.
Edit: Avast 5 does not support WHS - that comes from the horse's mouth after I emailed them in those regards.
RandomRageI will be using Microsoft Security Essentials once I get it up and running. I use it on all my other computers. Incredibly low footprint, no nags (I'm looking at you AVG Free). It's scored very high on all the reviews I've seen, and I've been incredibly happy with it.
You can only install on WHS if you Orca the XP MSI to install on WHS, by default it will not and is unsupported. If you have access to it Forefront can be installed on WHS, just use the /nomom switch. It uses the same AV engine.
Hi!
I just activated the online browsing for my WHS (so I can access all content through https). Do I need to increase security somehow to avoid someone hacking into my home network? Does WHS come with a firewall or something to prevent this?
I run MSE on all clients and McAfee Enterpris on the WHS.
kind regards
Henrik
If you're running AV software on your client machines it seems to me that running it on your Sever might be a bit overkill. Also, if you can simply use a client AV to scan your shared folders why bother loading another standalone program on your server. The cleaner the config the better it will run...at least that's what I keep telling myself.

If you're concerned with a hacker attacking your network, you probably need to look at buying a hardware firewall and not a software firewall. Your router should be setup to handle most of your potential problems. The HTTPS connection to your server is pretty sophisticated since it is web based and goes through what I'm assuming is Microsofts dedicated DNS for homesevers so I think you'll be ok. Just dont go advertising your server name on the web, or you're asking for problems.
