got a weird one here... my new WHS (self build) works treat and has backed up two of our 3 machines no problem over a combination of wifi and wired networks. however, we have a 3rd kitchen PC which due to the nature of our house needed a homeplug network (85mbs) to connect to the network and the internet. for some reason this machine reports that when it tries to backup the backup fails due to loss of network connection. is this a feature of a homeplug network? I will try later by plugging it in in a different room straight into the router, but thought I would ask to see if anyone else has a similar issue thanks H

I have trouble transferring large files over my old 85mbs homeplug devices when going between different ring circuits.

Have you tried copying a large file (or files) over the network and keeping an eye on the transfer rate?

Maybe once the first backup completes then you'll avoid the large file copy issue (if that's what you're seeing), plugging directly into the lan and doing a backup is a good idea.

I think the newer models perform much better than older products when it comes to old / noisy electrical installations (I got much better results when I borrowed some devolo dlan av 200 units).

Good luck with the investigation Smile

    Hi Howard,

could it possibly be that the kitchen pc is going to sleep too quickly for the backup to complete?  I've had a similar problem with my media pc before.  Have you tried installing MST from slicksolutions.eu - their latest version .100 has the ability to keep the pc awake while specified applications are running - they've added the WHS backup process out of the box, so it could be worth trying this.
