Just trying to get an idea what are some of the best software to use that will not slow the network down.

!!! I know it's not a WHS box, but I have just disabled that on my work machine.  It contstantly hogs ~80mb of ram and is making my HDD led cry in pain.

I use Avast on my WHS (the proper WHS version) and I'm very impressed with it.  The interface in the WHS console is nice, I can deploy changes/scans etc to client machines and I haven't noticed any performance problems.

 I know I'll probably take some heat for this but I actually use nothing.  I'm really not that concerned about it getting a virus.  I don't run Anti virus on my WHS or my MC.

I didn't use AV software until I built my WHS, I figured I invested in this machine to back up my shtuff I should probably protect it.  I decided to go with avast which also shows up in the WHS console.

I like Microsoft Security Essentials. Works great and it's free.

Same, small footprint and no bloat. Just make sure to enable Microsoft Updates to receive virus definitions.

Which version of MSE do you use?  I tried the WindowsXP version, and it was a no go.

Yeah, MSE doesn't work on Windows Home Server (WHS). I use MSE on all the workstations but AVAST on WHS.

I'm the same way.  Haven't used an Anti-virus in my house for more then 6 years.  They slow your systems down and are unnecessary if your careful
