...what are we meant to use instead?
Also, why, oh why was it taken out in the first place?
Thanks.

Yet another problem that requires a third party app to solve.

The functionality does remain in Explorer..... ;)AFAIK, the only thing that's truly gone is the ability to add lyrics (but, that was a bit buggy (MS's stated reason to remove said functionality.))

What about mass changing of, for example, genres - can that still be done easily? I still dont see why it was removed!! Why do they insist on removing stuff that didnt cause any problems and was relied on by certain folk?!! (a-la Sidebar)!
Sidebar is still there. It's just not constrained to being a bar, you can put gadgets wherever you want on the desktop.

Yes I know it is still there, but its a cut-down version because you can no longer have it always on top like in Vista . I have got mine back though by copying over the .exe from Vista. Microsoft should not remove stuff, but should give the user the choice IMO.
I use Media Monkey for all my music tagging work. There's a free version as well as a more fully-featured "Gold" version. The free version does all I need.
BTW, I don't understand the references in this thread to the "Sidebar not remaining on top" as in Vista. The WMP12 "Now Playing" window, which shows the Album Art for music playing can be set to always be showing (right-click on the window and set the option). Isn't that the functionality that people are saying isn't there?
IIRC from reading a MS blog, The Advance Tag Editor made it to the release in error - it was developed by a trainee or something... It was removed from WMP 12 because it was buggy and didn't update as it should've done.
I remember trying to use it and encountering many problems.
I use MP3Tag now - http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

Dont worry about the ref to Sidebar - we went off on a tangent for a short while!
